This review is from: Plantronics Voyager® PRO Bluetooth® Headset

I am a big time lover of plantronics microphones and bluetooth headsets. I bought this one because I live in a very windy area and have always had an issue with microphones in the wind and people not being able to hear me. The voyager pro does all that it claims, I get crisp clear audio on both sides in the most noisy environments. sometimes gets a bit garbled, but compared to any other headset it's top notch.

My beef with this particular headset was durability. My voyager 510 lasted me 2 years before the rubber literally gave out. With this one however, I had it literally 2 months before the headset broke at where it swivels. In the informational videos at plantronics they claim to have tested this and I can't see how it would survive given the location of one of the splits in the neck. It broke so easily it surprises me it lasted this long. I will not be buying another or if I do, I'll be re-inforcing that particular area prior to useage.

My other beef with this was not directly with the headset, but with plantronics. If you do not get your headset from an authorized plantronics retailer, they WILL NOT honor the warranty. This in the world of internet sales is just unacceptable to me. There are tons of places where you can buy this headset NEW yet plantronics won't honor the warranty and unless you have a aftermarket warranty like squaretrade, your SOL if your headset breaks....

This review is from: Plantronics Voyager® PRO Bluetooth® Headset

I've bought several bluetooth headsets ranging from the inexpensive up to $100 plus. The Plantronics Voyager Pro is by far the best. The microphone works well even in my noisy pickup truck, I believe because of the longer mic boom and the noise cancelling technology. The transmission and reception sound quality is excellent, as good as an expensive wired headset. Fits well and is comfortable to wear....

This review is from: Plantronics Voyager® PRO Bluetooth® Headset

The Plantronics Voyager Pro has excellent sound quality and fits on my ear comfortably. If you want a good quality headset, this is a good one. The battery also seems to last several days of standby and a few hours of calls. There are some user interface problems though.

There are problems with the buttons and the constant tones get on my nerves. The volume only adjust when in a call, the connect / disconnect button has to be pushed into the ear, and the headset beeps when anything is done on the phone. The Nokia BH900, which has been discontinued, would play the tones from the phone. And if the phone was on silent, the BH900 would be silent. This is not the case with the Voyager Pro, where it plays its own beep (not the phone's ringtones) and beeps even with the phone is switched to silent....

This review is from: Beats by Dr. Dre Solo White On-Ear Headphones with ControlTalk

I saw these in Best Buy, tried it on and was satisfied... until I saw a jack input that says "compare with your headphones".

I did so using my old Bose Triport In-Ear. I'm glad I did.

While these Dr. Dre heavyweights are okay, they just couldn't stand toe-to-toe with Bose as far as sound and build quality are concerned. And these are just the In-Ear types! I have a pair of Bose Triport Around-The-Ear for well over 7 years now and they'd still kick Beats' butt!

But if you're the "flash-with-no-substance" type, then by all means, get 'em. Wearing these clearly says "Yeah I can afford 'em!" And I have to admit, they look really good. But that's just about it.

Hey don't take my word for it. Just try before you buy. You'll see. (... or "hear" for that matter.)

:-)...

ACOUSTIGRIP - Wire 'micro-management' for earphones, earbuds, iPod, iP

Micro-sized clip stays attached to earphones wires so not to get lost.

Clip to shirt to control slack and prevent tugging on ears.

Holds earphones wrapped around MP3 or Phone for stowage.

Clip to shirt and use as tether to hang your earphones or your MP3.

Wire 'micro-management' for earphones, earbuds, iPod, iPhone, Zune, Sony. TWO BLACK attachment clips. MADE IN THE USA ACOUSTIGRIP is an earphone cord management clip that attaches to the wires of your earphones. ACOUSTIGRIP is used to clip the earphone wires to a shirt or light weight jacket. This allows the user to perfectly set the wire slack so that the earphones do not tug on the ears with head movement or when the wire 'swings' during exercise activities. ACOUSTIGRIP can also act as a tether for earphones in the same way that "Croakies" can be used to tether sunglasses. ACOUSTIGRIP is very small (smaller than a dime) so that is can remain attached on the wires and not get in the way. Three wire 'receivers' are provided to fit the most common wire sizes, such as those on the Apple earphones. The two wire receivers on the outside of the clip are for smaller wire pairs and the one wire receiver in the center can be used for a single larger wire. ACOUSTIGRIP clips are formed from a durable plastic material and can be readily "adjusted" with a coin and opened up if necessary to accept larger wire diameters.

This review is from: ACOUSTIGRIP - Wire \'micro-management\' for earphones, earbuds, iPod, iPhone, Zune, Sony. TWO BLACK attachment clips. MADE IN THE USA

I bought these clips at the same time that I bought a pair of Skull Candy Full Metal Jackets in early March of 2010. Be forewarned; The clips are tiny and therefore easy to lose. The basic design is for one to be used on the single wire portion of headphones and the second clip to be used on the two-wire section. The wires should not be forced into the clips for fear of cutting the cord's outer cover. If it seems snug, use a coin to open the clip a little wider. Then while the clip is still in a wider-than-normal state, the wire should slip in with little resistance. Attaching the clips to clothes is a little tricky because the jaws do not open too widely. More than likely, there are some models of earphones whose wires are just too thick to fit into these clips. Clipping onto the edges of clothes like hems or the side of a tie is much easier than pinching the fabric in the middle of a garment. One unanticipated benefit of using these clips is the reduction of noise created from the headphone cord slapping around. It's been my experience that the in-ear style of earphones often turns any contact with the cord into a soft noise. The vibrations caused by the cord simply moving over clothes has turned some people away from the in-ear style in favor of the kind originally packaged with an iPod. Keeping the cord clipped eliminated this noise.

Because I often wear headphones while doing a lot of physical activity where headphone cords can easily get snagged, I often run the cord under my shirt and around to the back of my head. Instead of having the cord in front of my chin, I clip the cord to the back of my shirt around where the tag is and have the earbuds run to my ears from the back. I mention my personal setup because these clips in particular do that job very well. They are small and unobtrusive whereas other clips I have used to route the cable in this manner always seemed to get in the way, rub on my neck or pull too much on the neck of my shirt. The small size and lightweight nature of these clips suits me perfectly.

I've used the Acoustigrips almost everyday for slightly more than a month and have found no noticeable deterioration in performance. Their hold on both wires and clothes remains secure....

This review is from: ACOUSTIGRIP - Wire \'micro-management\' for earphones, earbuds, iPod, iPhone, Zune, Sony. TWO BLACK attachment clips. MADE IN THE USA

This thing is really tiny, which is good in concept but makes it work only so-so in my specific application. I have Shure earphones (model E4-c)and it was a real struggle to get the wires leading to the earbuds jammed into the appropriate space on the Acoustigrip. This also means it is basically not really possible to slide the Acoustigrip up and down for adjustment once it is installed. Also, the clip function (i.e., clipping the Acoustigrip to your shirt) is not the easiest to use. The opening on the Acoustigrip that attaches to your shirt is extremely small so you end up having to use your fingernail to jam a tiny bit of material into it to hold onto. At the end of the day, it all works ok -- it is just not as easy to use as it might be (at least paired with my particular earphones)....

This review is from: ACOUSTIGRIP - Wire \'micro-management\' for earphones, earbuds, iPod, iPhone, Zune, Sony. TWO BLACK attachment clips. MADE IN THE USA

I bought this wire management accessory to try and improve my handling of a pair or Shure SE350. True to other reviews (and the website of the manufacturer) this "clip" fits a specific set of earphones. It fits the Apple earbuds nicely as well as a pair of sport Sennheisers. Alas, not the Shures. So, be advised. It fits relatively thin cables not thick ones.

That said, if it fits your earphones the acoustic grips are awesome. Using one for the two earphones and one for the single cable part. I use them with my running earphones and they hold the cable in position during half-marathons (2 hours of continuos running).

I don't wear "thick" clothing I cannot comment on that limitation. For regular t-shirts and other sports gear the clips attaches perfectly.

I liked the acoustigrip enough to buy another pair!!!...

Sennheiser HD800 Over-Ear Circum-Aural Dynamic Premiere Headphone

It provides High Sound Quality - equipment, specifications.

From the Manufacturer The Story of the Sennheiser HD800The story of the Sennheiser HD 800 began with a dream: of developing headphones that go way beyond conventional equipment to become music phones, or even perfect sound phones. The dream of creating a hi-fi device that sounds as brilliant, clear, and undistorted as if you were sitting right next to the source. The dream of creating an acoustic experience more incredible than anything ever heard through dynamic headphones: in spheres that no other category is capable of reaching--right there where perfection begins.

We couldn’t go beyond physical boundaries--but we did cross the boundaries of thought. The HD 800 is equipped with a completely new transducer and only the very finest of materials have been installed: each part carefully inserted by hand. We are talking about manufacture in the truest sense of the word, right from the initial drafts to individual handcrafting "made in Germany".

Above all, the Sennheiser HD 800 truly personifies the creative force of the company that created it: by displaying the passion for perfect sound that has been driving Sennheiser innovation over 60 years.

The Principle of Spatial Listening The impression of spatial listening is created by a minute time lapse with which one and the same sound wave arrives at the inner ear. Ideally, the sound waves produced by a hi-fi sound system reach the listener at an angle of 60 degrees. The sound waves do not reach the ear straight on, but through a slightly angled sound front. This causes some of the sound impulses to reach the nerve ends of the inner ear earlier than others. The resulting time lapse is a matter of split seconds, but it is exactly this phenomenon that gives the impression of spatial listening.

Wearing the HD 800 you enjoy much more than just a sound experience of out-standing brilliance. You experience a form of spatial listening never heard before. You have the feeling of being in a studio together with Thelonius Monk or actually being present at a rehearsal of the Berlin Philharmonic. The HD 800 makes spatial listening possible through a combination of the large transducer surface and the angle at which it is suspended. The slightly angled sound front effectively simulates the principle of the spatial sound experience. No other manufacturer comes as close to producing a natural sound experience as Sennheiser with the HD 800.

Outstanding Technology Provides Outstanding Sound

The lightweight ring transducer precisely delivers sound without harmonic distortion The superiority of the HD 800 is based on a completely new principle, right at its very heart: The transducer is designed in the shape of a ring. Basically, the larger the surface of the transducer the purer the sound—particularly when it comes to the low notes. A large surface area, however, also generates disruptive spurious oscillation at higher frequencies, so-called eigenmodes. This is primarily due to the fact that conventional-sized transducers do not have a satisfactory way of controlling high-frequency oscillations. The ringed shape of the new transducer effectively solves this dilemma: Its broad area oscillates in an extremely controlled way due to the large coil and the two supporting surfaces. This results in a previously unheard-of degree of freedom from distortion and thus the greatest purity and brilliance of sound.

And when it comes to the naked technical facts, the HD 800 doesn’t save on superlatives: The 56-mm-wide transducer is the largest of its type. The same goes for the aluminum coil (40 mm) and the 42-mm magnet system.

Ring Transducer vs. a Conventional Transducer

In contrast to a full-sized transducer, the ring-shaped transducer utilized in the HD 800 greatly enhances the control of the oscillating surface. This results in a more voluminous sound wave and thus far greater clarity.

In a conventional transducer, unwanted spurious oscillation can occur due to eigenmodes. Even improvements such as increasingly sophisticated Duofol laminations are unable to completely negate these physical limitations.

At the heart of the HD 800 is the patent-pending ring-shaped transducer. The wound precision wire that makes up the coil is only 42 micrometers thick. It consists of 3.5 layers of wire in a total of 98 windings. The space between the two magnets, in which the coil oscillates freely, is only 0.6 mm wide. The work of fitting these parts is done by hand—and the same thing applies to many of the other components of the HD 800. The transducer of the HD 800 transmits in a frequency band from 8 Hz–50 kHz. Not that anyone is capable of perceiving this sound range, but the pleasant ancillary effect is that the transducer delivers an extremely clean sound in the 16 Hz–20 kHz range.

Cords and Connections

The symmetrical cords are designed with twin-core, high-performance, Teflon-insulated connections on each side. They are additionally covered with high-quality material for better shielding from oscillations caused by ambient noise. The jacks are exclusively produced for the HD 800 in Switzerland and feature gold-plated bunches. Gold has the highly positive property of having a very low transfer resistance, thus guaranteeing excellent contact without interference.

Headband and Mountings

The headband consists of a sandwich design in which a metal layer is covered with several layers of plastic. The high-tech plastic possesses incredible attenuation characteristics and ensures that oscillations are not transmitted to the headphone mountings.

The headphones of the HD 800 are only mounted on one side, to make sure they fit optimally over the ear. The relocation of their point of balance towards the back of the head also enhances comfort for the wearer.

A special kind of Japanese Alcantara has been selected for the ear pads. This material is extremely comfortable to wear and easy to maintain. Leona, an ultra-light, high-rigidity special plastic, is as hard as titanium and thus yielding extremely low oscillation. Hi-tech stainless steel mesh--the ideal material for three-dimensional sound--combines all the properties of stainless steel with an incredible degree of transparency.

Technical Specifications Frequency Response: 6–51,000 Hz (-10 dB); 14–44,100 Hz (-3 dB) Nominal impedance: 300 Ohms Sound pressure level at 1 kHz: 102 dB (1 Vrms) Max. nominal long-term input power: 500 mW in acc. with EN 60-268-7 Harmonic distortion: Sennheiser HD800 Over-Ear Circum-Aural Dynamic Premiere Headphone

I am not a golden ear audiophile. I don't know what it means to hear "the air between the strings" and other such audiophile descriptions. More power to those that can -- I am simply not able to do so. I do however know that music is and always has been my greatest entertainment, and that as I have grown olde...

Sennheiser HD515 Dynamic Stereo Sound Audiophile 500 Series Headphone

Open-Aire, circumaural, dynamic, stereo headphones

Eargonomic Acoustic Refinement (EAR) enables ideal sound channelling for a new kind of listening experience

Stats of the Art Duolfol diaphragms

Highly optimized, field-strengthened neodymium ferrous magnet systems

Outstanding comfort for long listening sessions

The HD 515 is a classic headphone and an affordable entry into the audiophile 500 series. It's perfect for listening with virtually any source. It is fitted with Sennheiser's innovative E.A.R. technology, plus special Duofol diaphragms that reduce unwanted resonances to an absolute minimum. Overall listening pleasure is combined with outstanding comfort.

This review is from: Sennheiser HD515 Dynamic Stereo Sound Audiophile 500 Series Headphones

Let me say right off the bat that I am very picky about sound when it comes to using my computer for most of my audio visual needs. I have a fast computer with a Soundblaster X-Fi platinum card, and Klipsch ProMedia THX surround sound system - a combination that almost got me evicted on several occassions before getting a home of my own to indulge myself in.

I did a lot of humming and hawing over headphones and ended up getting both the Sennheiser HD 515 and the more upscale 555. I have always been spoiled by the bold yet warm, balanced yet punchy sound that the Klipsch speakers and subwoofer deliver - literally everything sounds great from music to movies to games. It wasn't until I got these headphones that I realized how good Klipsch is at making up for variances in source recording quality.

Everyone says it, so I will echo this here as well - you hear details you never knew existed in just about anything you play. This is not always a good thing, when you notice that some of your favourite songs have some annoying, yet previously-undetected touches in the background that can really spoil things.

Like a lot of people, I mostly listen to MP3s off my hard drive which will never be as good as the originals, but the convenience outweighs the slight loss in quality. From the moment I plugged in these headphones, the difference between inferior rips and great ones was painfully evident.

After the first few tracks, I was pretty disappointed and thought the headphones were just not that great, or perhaps they needed more time to "burn in". But then I put on some of my favourties and WOW what an instant difference!

I put on Sting's "Thousand Years" captured at 256 bitrate and it was like I was right there in the studio. Sade's "No Ordinary Love" and Toni Braxton @ 192 kbps were also amazing . Even at 128 kbps, The Coors' "Dreams" was outstanding.

I tried them plugged into the home theatre receiver with the opening scene from Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. The narration by Galadriel was haunting and powerful, with her voice sounding like it was inside my head.

I haven't plugged these into my pre-amp yet which will give them a lot more juice, and they haven't had a 40+ hour burn-in so I am quite pleased so far.

IMPORTANT - although they are open, very little sound leaks out like some people have complained. I find this a good balance because I have small kids where I use the 555's at home, and cannot shut myself off from everyone else at work where I use the 515's. It completely drowns out my slightly loud case fans but I can still hear loud things around me. Anyone who says that people down the hall can hear them must be cranking these to obscene levels - VERY bad for your long-term hearing, and ironically one of the reasons why it is smart to get pure-sounding headphones in the first place.

Bottom line: The 555's are better and do not colour the music as much as the 515's. This means everything sounds good with the 515s while the 555s can make you change your mind about some of your favourites. Again, this comes back to the quality of the source and not the headphones themselves. Are the 555's worth 2-3x the price of the 515s? Not unless you have the money to burn. The HD 515s are an amazing value for the price - I got mine as fully warranteed B-stock that are in new condition and cost $20 less than list. $40 for a set of cans that sound almost as good as the highly vaunted 555s - a no brainer......

I have had these for about a year now. I love them. They were $70 at the time and provide great quality audio. I use them in an office environement setup to a standard PC audio card. The sound is clean and crisp, while also providing good bass.

They are very comfortable to wear - I often find myself unknowningly wearing them after I've shut my music off.

I use these everyday....

I've read some different opinions of these 'phones and people have said they don't fit your head (this is ridiculous since they're adjustable) or that they are very easy to break, which in my experience it has been the exact opposite. I've caught the cord on things numerous times, had somebody knock them off of my desk, somebody even sat on them and they still remain the same as when I first purchased them. No scratches, cracks, disconnections or breaks of any kind. I would actually inform people that these are quite sturdy and durable instead of making it seem as though they will snap with the first wrong move.

The sound quality is just amazing for the price and as others have noted, they're much better all-around headphones than the Sony brand in the same price range. I tested both for long periods of time and gave them each a fair amount of burn-in. In the end the Sennheisers are a much bigger bang for your buck. As for them sounding like tin cans or even more laughable: sounding better when they're cupped by your hands, those statements are just entirely false as another reviewer has already pointed out. The sound becomes much worse when this is done because it takes away from the sonic accuracy and spatial experience. Maybe the reviewer who said this needs some new equipment or a better understanding of the way these headphones are supposed to work. When you buy open headphones (which, by the way, reproduce better sound than a closed pair) you should know what you're getting and the fact that people will be able to hear what you're listening to if they're close enough. The quality is much better, that's the difference and it's the reason they are made this way. If you're looking for privacy, grab the Sony V6.

All in all these are well worth the price tag and will definitely bring a smile to your face if they're your first, second, or even third dip into audiophile territory. However, you must keep moving up the line if your expectations become too high. Headphones in this range can only do so much and these most certainly get the job done for the tag attached to them. ...
