I have had a pair of Shure E2C earphones for nearly three years and I absolutely love them: perfect fit, great sound. I finally had to look for another set because the wire jacket began to crack and got progressively worse to the point where the wire is now fully exposed and starting to unravel. Since they are past their warranty, Shure wanted $60 plus shipping to repair them, so I decided to look around and try one of their newer models. I found these SE110's for $49.95 on clearance (regular $119.99, I paid $99 for the E2C's), so I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was mistaken. While the sound quality is better than you will find on any other $50 earphones, it is definitely not worth $120, and not nearly as good as the E2C's; and the design has changed for the worse also. My E2C's fit perfectly and comfortably in my ears using the medium size Flex sleeves, forming a great sound-isolating seal. The SE110's have a slightly different shape, and I have tried all of the included Flex and Black Foam sleeves and cannot get a comparable fit. I am now thinking I should have just spent the money to have my E2C's repaired. I never thought a Shure product which was supposed to be a newer model of my current product could be so much worse....

A friend of mine who is an electrical engineer recommended these headphones based on their frequency response. I bought the Bose in ear headphones thinking that they sounded good. These are replacing the Bose headphones because they did not feel that secure while in, and the highs were a bit muffled.

The Shure SE110 fits in the ear very secure and does an excellent job of cutting out the ambient noises in whatever atmosphere you're in. I use the Shure headphones while working out and they do not fall out while doing any cardio or strength training. The sound quality is superb and very rich for in ear headphones.

They come with a carrying case, 3 different size grey rubber inserts, and 3 black foam inserts. This ensures that you will find a size that fits your ear correctly and comfortably. The better they fit in your ear, the better the audio quality is. For example, if you use an insert that is too small for your ear; the bass is very weak. I currently use the black, foam style inserts because they do the best at dampening noises from the environment your in. It is almost like putting an ear plug in your ear, that is hollowed out with music being delivered straight into your ear canal. I am a musician who is very picky when it comes to audio quality. These pass the test, I highly recommend them.

I've been using these headphones for about 2 months now and I am really happy with them. They sound great - (I listen to mostly Pop/Rock). I use the foam ear pieces which are really comfortable and block out most of the ambient noise. The headphones come with high quality audio cables which are thick enough to not get tangle when you throw your mp3 player in your bag. I wish the extension cable that came with it is a bit shorter so I don't have an extra foot of cable to deal with. The headphone cable is too short to use without the extension. The carrying case is a nice touch, but I never use it....

These are nice earplugs. They fit into my ears well, though they probably won't fit EVERYONE'S ears as well. Plus, some folks just won't like wearing plugs that fit so deeply into the ear canal; those people should avoid the HN060. The generic earpiece fits snugly enough for me, but it's not a custom earpiece, so one shouldn't expect it to be perfect for all ears--Philips should have provided multiple sizes with the HN060, like those provided with Koss ear buds.

Sound is decent enough, though it's certainly no Grado headphone, nor is it remotely close to the sound provided by an enclosed earpiece. No thumping bass, but a reasonably good frequency response in the mids and highs. The snugness of the earpiece does affect the sound quality; the better they fit, the better the sound will be, and the less ambient noise will sneak in. I listen predominantly to classical, swing, and horn-driven jazz, all of which sound rather nice with the HN060. I do not think those interested in heavy bass-driven music will be satisfied with these plugs.

The noise reduction features work well enough to reduce the fan noise of a close-by stack of servers. Airplane noise, air conditioner noise, and other steady amibients are reduced quite noticeably. Don't get these thinking you're going to be immersed in silence--you're kidding yourself. I'm satisfied, but feel that full enclosure headphones do almost as well at noise reduction.

The cloth-wrapped cord is very nice, as is the neck strap. This brings me to the only con I've found, the LENGTH of the cord is just not adequate except for use with wearable audio devices--a problem that most manufacturers seem to have developed.

Overall, a good buy for those inclined to like in-ear plugs. Others should avoid them solely for comfort issues....

Looking over a lot of these reviews, it's pretty obvious that a lot of people don't know what they are buying and are dissatisfied not based on the product but product class (i.e. don't complain about your hair getting blown around if you purchased a convertible - ignorance is not a valid reason to pan a product). I'm thinking the price point here gets a lot of people buying them that are unfamiliar with this type of product, how to use it properly and what noise canceling actually is, hence you get all these negative reviews which seems to have a lot more to do with the type of product rather than the performance of the product within that context - you probably don't get these reviews with Shure or higher end phones simply because the price is prohibitive and keep the general shopper out unless they are specifically investigating.

With that out of the way, these are designed to fit in the ear canal. That works to provide some isolation effect although not as much as higher end Shure or other brands. For good sound quality, they must produce a seal in the canal. If you don't like this idea or can't get used to the feel, buy a different type of product - this is the nature of this type of device not just this product. Current packaging comes with 3 separate sizes to accomodate a broader range - they must seal the canal and most can probably get these to work well enough although they are not as good as custom ear peices (hey $20-40 - get real).

Another potential issue with this type of device is that the wires hang down and when they move you can hear them in your ear - once again nature of the device. This is why high end models have tiny little light wires (that don't stand up to much abuse) whereas these employ a neck cord from which the noise canceling unit also hangs. Not really an ideal or even good choice for sports or high activity listening where you'll be moving a ton although these might actually work okay for some purposes. Buds are really a better choice for this. There are multiple types of personal listening devices, you buy the one that suits your needs, don't complain that you bought the wrong type (i.e. buying high end monitors and complaining about the size, weight, and cord length while jogging).

Overall sound quality is pretty solid when used correctly with good seal. I was actually surprised with the base response and the mids and highs are accurate enough. You get really good sound for $20-40 - much better than I expected and for the price in this class probably impossible to beat unless you go far upmarket in price. Of course if you don't install them in your ear and get a seal - no base, tin, and low volume (once again, know what you are buying).

Noise canceling is okay. Blocks out a lot of ambiet machinery like A/C units or airplane noise. The plugs provide some measure of isolation and when combined with active canceling and some music you won't hear too much else unless you are looking for it or it's quite loud (which is something I like if I'm in a public place so I'm not totally isolated from what's going on around me in case of emergency or need for reaction). Once again, for the pricing it's quite decent. It does require an AAA battery which is included and one can easily forget to turn it off. This unit dangles from around your neck (unless you rest it on a table). This works okay for me, mileage may vary. It's certainly not too heavy although the jogging crew may not like it - but this is not a product geared for that so go figure although if you can handle it bouncing around a bit I guess it can be used.

Other: it does come with a full size stero jack as well as an adapter for airplanes. Pretty handy and nice pricing. 3 sizes of rubber plugs. Comes with a nice little psuedo leather bag/sack. Most of the cord is covered in a nylon/rope style sheathing so it should be durable (the exception is the cord from the lanyard to the actual ear phones which need to be very light).

The Negatives: Seems to require quite a bit of power so you'll have to turn the volume up higher than normal for the same listening level. You can leave the noise canceling on by mistake and drain the battery although it is not necessary for standard listening and the plugs themselves provice a decent measure of semi-isolation for most circumstances. 3 sizes of plugs don't guarantee a fit in every person's ear - mileage may vary. People may not like the in-canal type of product - probably not a good idea for small/irresponsible children. Consider keeping your ears clean and cle...

I also have the px-100,pxc-250,pxc-300. The PXC-310 is nicely built. They are bigger than the other pxc models and sit on the ear. Because of this you get better noise cancellation than the other models. They also come in a case that is just a tiny bit bigger than the case of the pxc-250 and 300. On the plus side, the noise cancellation is built into the earphones rather than an external piece as in the 250 and 300. It also has a volume control built into the earphones. The sound is good with good bass and highs. That being said, when you turn the noise cancellation on, you lose some bass. This was also the case with the pxc-300 but not the 250. However, the 310 still puts out more bass than any of the previous models. The talk through function is handy when someone is speaking to you. All you have to do is press the button on the earphone and it shuts off the music so you can hear via a built in microphone. However, it sounds as though you are under water. It has a very hollow sound, but it is a nice feature. Once again, these earphones, like its predecessors do not play as loud as other headphones but is more than sufficient. Another nice feature is that the earphones still work without the noise cancellation turned on. To be honest, the earphones sound better with the noise cancellation turned off. If you are in a quiet environment, this would be the way to go. All in all they are comfortable,good sounding and nicely built. By the way, i had and returned the Bose QC3. To my ears the 310 are much better sounding....

I ordered these phones for air travel, to decide between them and the Sennheiser PXC-350s, also noise canceling phones. The 310s sound very good, but the richness of the sound can't compare to the larger 350s, which, unlike the on-the-ear 310s, totally cover your ears. The smaller size of the folding 310s may be a plus for travelers, but the phones also appear to be far less substantial than the 350s. I went for the less expensive, more durable and better sounding 350s, and will put up with stares from fellow passengers who are thinking that I must be a member of the Science Club from the size of my phones. The 450s sounded pretty much identical to the 350s- to me, not worth the extra $100....

Hi Everyone,

I just received my SE425's 2 days ago, and have had ample time to "break them in". After spending almost $300, I'm not sure if they're exactly as I expected. I previously had the Shure E2C, SE210, and SE310; all of them were wonderful in their own ways at their price points.

However, the SE425 have very similar sound to the now-discontinued and discounted SE310 even with two discrete drivers, while costing more (after SE310 price discounts). The cables are too rigid near the ears, making for uncomfortable wearing. Also, the nozzles/earpieces don't go as deep in the ear canal as previous models, but surprisingly without sacrificing sound isolation. The bass is too understated, even compared to Shure's "flat-sound" standards. The detachable cables are an amazing innovation (finally implemented), especially since my previous models have gone through 3-4 cable warranty repairs (crackling sound) while the drivers themselves were perfectly fine.

Beware, the earphone plug-in piece is quite large, making it very difficult to fit in iPhone/MP3 player cases (especially the iPhone 1st gen and iPhone 4 w/ bumper). The previous Shure models didn't have this problem, as their plug points were quite narrow.

Overall, the Shure SE425 seems more durable than previous models, but their high price point with only marginal improvements makes it slightly difficult to justify over previous Shure models, which are now heavily discounted.

I'm do not claim to be an audiophile who listens to music only through Amps and such, though I do value and understand quality audio. I mainly use these headphones with my iPhone 4 and laptop with higher bitrate songs (320 KPBS+ VBR).

....I purchased a pair of SE425 ear buds to replace a set of Shure e4c earbuds that died a premature death from wire insulation "rot" thinking that the replaceable cords would solve the problem. Well they do, but there is another problem inherent in the design that is not readily apparent....until you try to replace the sleeves with new ones. With my pair, the sleeves(only had them for 5 weeks)had become fused to the stems. So upon trying to remove them following the instructions in the manual, the stems snapped off!!! Well, with e4c buds they are replaceable but with the SE425 buds the stems are an integral part of the earbud and are NOT replaceable. My suggestion to those who purchase these is that the 1st thing you do when you get them is to try to swap out the sleeves sometime before the Amazon 30 day return policy expires. Hopefully the 2 year warranty will save the day for me. I will keep you posted!

OK.... its 2/24/11 and I got my replacements already from Shure. Great turn-around! Raised the star value up to a 4 from a 1. They sound great but I am still disappointed in the fact that the stems are not replaceable. Although the sleeves remove easier on this pair, I would guess that this will happen again sometime in the fut...

Lightweight and have good sound. These are a good option in for an inexpensive in-ear solution. I am looking forward to testing these against some MEElectronics M9P's that I ordered. In terms of a solution that allows you to listen to music and also talk on the phone, these are great for the money. I just think the fit is a little "tight" (I like how Jbuds for an iPod fit me) and want to try a second option....

The NoiseHush ear buds are by far the BEST i have ever used!!!The most comfortable and the sound is fantastic and blocks outside noise very well.I use it to listen to the FM stations on my Cell phone. My newer motorola just happens to use the bigger regular walkman type tip, not the typical smaller cell phone tip and this fit perfect.Highly recomended for sure....
