Etymotic Research ER20 High-Fidelity Earplugs (White with Clear Stem)

Reduces noise while preserving sound quality

Speech is clear, not muffled

Ready-fit, low cost hearing protection

All sound is reduced evenly by 20 dB

Helps prevent noise-induced hearing loss

ETY-Plugs (TM) earplugs use patented technology that replicates the natural response of the ear canal so that sound heard with these earplugs is as clear as the original, just quieter. ETY-Plugs earplugs have nearly the same fidelity as Etymotic's Musicians Earplugs (TM) (custom earplugs worn by professional musicians) and are a low cost alternative. Hearing loss is a function of exposure time, the average sound level, and the peak level of very loud sounds. Exposure to excessive noise can cause permanent hearing loss depending on the intensity and duration of the sound. Some persons are more susceptible to hearing loss from high-level sound than others. Protect your ears. In high-noise environments, wear Ety-Plugs. Includes one pair of Ety-Plugs, carrying case, black neck cord and instructions.

This review is from: Etymotic Research ER20 High-Fidelity Earplugs (White with Clear Stem)

These little plugs are great. I'm in a band and go to a lot of live shows, and the regular foam plugs just didn't cut it any more. The advantage of these plugs is that the sound response is flat; you still hear the full range of frequencies, only, it's just quieter. You can totally have a conversation with someone in the middle of a crowded dance floor.

I love these so much, I actually bought a few more and gave them to my bandmates and girlfriend. They come with a cord in case you have a problem with losing them.

A note: make sure they're inserted correctly (ALL the way in) -- you'll definitely know. Also, the first few times you wear them it feels like an octopus is attacking your brain. You'll get used to that. Finally, it helps if you lubricate them on the way in with a bit of spit....

This review is from: Etymotic Research ER20 High-Fidelity Earplugs (White with Clear Stem)

I drive a transit bus in Seattle, WA and believe me when I say that we live in an exceptionally changed world these days where there is no such thing as one's own private space. I work all day in a chaotic environment surrounded by people yelling on their cell phones, people listening to music on cheap headsets that sound like mini boom boxes and playing noisey computer games - yeah that's right, I'm talking about you buster! Anyway, if I hadn't discovered these Etymotic earplugs I'd probably be locked up for one reason or another by now. These dandy little gems have made my life sane again. Oh, I can still hear people yaking away but at such a reduced volume that I can actually tolerate it. One word of advice: don't cram them too deeply into your ears like you probably had to do with the old sponge kind because they'll be hard to remove and will cause your ear canal to get sore....

This review is from: Etymotic Research ER20 High-Fidelity Earplugs (White with Clear Stem)

These are much better than foam earplugs. everything's clear. First thing I did when I got them was test them out in a movie theater. Watched the whole movie with no problems. There is quite a bit of in-head noise, like breathing and chewing, but it is great for when I'm singing because I can hear myself clearly over the rest of the band....

This review is from: VIZIO XVTHP200 Active Noise Canceling High Definition Home Theater Headphones with Wireless Dock for iPod (Black)

This review is from a gamer's perspective, so if you are an audiophile, you may want to look elsewhere. I have a PS3 hooked up to some Logitech X540 speakers and wanted some headphones that could give me the same type of performance. I had a pair or Turtle Beach DPX21, but returned them because I did not like the soundstage of the headphones. They had good bass but the directional quality did not impress me.

These Vizio XVTHP200 retail for over $300. To some, that may be expensive, but they are on par with other wireless headsets from other makers such as Sennheiser, Turtle Beach, or Astro Gaming.

Out of the box you get the headphones, the wireless dock/stand, power adapter for the dock, travel charger for the headphones, 3 iPod/iPhone trays, 3.5mm audio cable, RCA cables Optical/Toslink cable and a carrying case.

The wireless dock charges the headset via contacts on the top. The front of the wireless dock will display the input: iPod/SPDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format)/AUX SRS Fuction: SRS TruVolume/SRS TruSurround and Dolby Digital Light.

The back of the wireless dock has RCA Audio in, SPDIF in, RCA Audio Out, DC in, HUB/CLIENT switch, Pair button, and Power button. The top of the dock has your iPhone dock and an INPUT button.

The headphone's left ear cup has buttons for: volume up, power, volume down, Active Noise Reduction, and SRS.

The headphone's right cup has buttons for: Next track, play/pause, Previous track, a charging port, input and an input button. It also has a 3.5mm input jack for on the cup for hooking up an mp3 player directly when you travel.

Tech specs are: Speakers: 40mm Neodymium Drivers

Sensitivity 96±3 dB 1mW at 1.5mm

Distortion: 1KHz < 10%

Impedance: 32 Ohm ± 20% at 1KHz

SPL: 110 dB SPL per 1mW

Battery Power: Battery - 940mAH

Voltage: Adapter - 100V~240V

So how do they sound? Fantastic. With the iPod or my iPhone plugged into the dock, music was crisp with great non-distorting bass. As for games, I tried COD MW2, COD Black Ops, and Split Second. At first I had the optical cable going straight out from my Samsung monitor and had the PS3 set the sound to use the HDMI cable. Sound was good but the PS3 then can't do Dolby Digital. I then routed the optical cable from the PS3 to the wireless dock and then the Dolby Digital status light came on. You soundstage was definitely better with the PS3 games with crisper highs. The unit has two SRS settings. SRS Truvolume is suppose to eliminate volume spikes. For me, it gave me a more louder more expanded sound. SRS TruSurround expands the sound even further. The Active Noise Reduction button should be used only if you want to block out certain sounds such as a jet engine or vacuum cleaner. Additionally, I noticed absolutely no white noise when nothing as playing. I also testing routing the sound from the speakers to the heading using a 3.5mm jack to RCAs and only got a slight noise when the volume level was higher than 70% from the Logitech's control knob. Keeping it at 50% fixed the issue.

Drawbacks? The headsets are heavier than the Turtle Beaches and will probably be heavier than all the other brands you test but for me it is not an issue. The earcups adjust left to right and tilt and are very soft. They also fold up for traveling.

The other issue is that the side of the headphone band are made of rubber so it was a bad dust magnet.

The headphones took about 2 hours to fully charge. If you place them on the dock, then will always charge, even if the dock is powered off and then the headphones will power off once they are charged. You should probably only charge them only you get a low battery notice for best performance.

So far I am very pleased with the headphones due to the fact it can stream audio from my PS3, my laptop or from my iPhone and charges my iPhone. The sound has great bass and very good separation even though it is a single driver unit. Build quality is good and being wireless is a great option compared to the wired units.

If you are looking for a good wireless headset, I recommend you consider the Vizio unit.

UPDATE: Some games like GT5 do not work under optical out. Initially I thought that the headphones had gone out, but you have to change the PS3 sound settings back to HDMI and not Optical Out. So if you are not getting sound from the gaming console, check your sound settings in the console or even in the game itself.

UPDATE 2: So after two weeks of further testing, I returned the headphones. The main reason for me was personal in that they were too heavy and the leather padding was too hot for my head. I still think these are great headphones but just not for me. I went back to the Turtle Beach DPX21s and after adjusting the sound settings, I have happy with the TBs but don't like the fact that they are not self powered so you have to keep swapping out the USB plug from device to device for the TBs to power on.

...

This review is from: VIZIO XVTHP200 Active Noise Canceling High Definition Home Theater Headphones with Wireless Dock for iPod (Black)

First off let me say that these headphone sound great, especially when the noise-canceling and SRS are active. But if get as much 15 away from the receiver, the sound starts to break up. At first I though it was due to the transmitter being near all my other AV equipment (i.e. EMI). But even after moving it to another part of the room I am still getting a limited range. The other reviews I have read (mostly on the Costco site) say they have great range. I don't know...maybe I have a faulty pair. I am going to try putting the transmitter in an entirely different floor and see if that helps. If no...

High quality NOISE CANCELING headphones Slim swivel folding style for easy portability Built-in monitor switch to hear surrounding sound Ear conscious design for premium wearing comfort Neodymium magnets are used to deliver powerful sound

This review is from: Sony MDR-NC50 Noise Canceling Headphones

I just tried these 'phones on with my iPod in the Sony store

they are DEFINITELY much better than the $300 Bose

here are the pros -

1. Sound Quality --- terrific sound quality --- I almost forgot I was standing in a store, because I was so wrapped up by how great my tunes were sounding

2. Noise Cancelling --- definitely makes a difference here - there is more pureness and depth within each tune, once cancelling is on ----- however, the headphones still sound great even without Noise Cancelling on

3. Comfort ---- the ear-cups on these things are terrific! I hated how the $300 Bose had a type of 'suction' element to them - these cups wrap around real nicely, closing in on your ear, but making it fine to rest your head upon them, as well

4. MONITOR BUTTON --- this was really cool! These 'phones have a button on the side (a sliver button) that upon being pressed, the music is elimated and all outside noises are allowed in ----- thus, if someone approaches to talk to you, you can just press the monitor button and talk back, without even taking your 'phones off

5. Detachable Cable ---- I liked this --- these 'phones won't get caught up in cable binds

6. Built in battery -- not much to add here

7. Adjustments ---- the 'phones are easy to adjust and manuever

CONS ---- sadly, a few cons

1. Portability ---- the 'phones are small enough to put in a briefcase, backpack, and most laptop bags...... however, they don't fold up ---- rather, they become flat, but the middle doesn't fold in any way ---- so they are not as easy to pack, as most headphones

2. Comfort/FIT ------ personally, I have a BIG head, and one reason I abandoned my $300 Bose is because the snug fit gave me horrible headaches..... sadly, this Sony set seems to do the same ---- if you don't have this problem with other headphones though, then I doubt you'd have it with this one

otherwise though, for $120, these 'phones are a bargain!

Definitely an upgrade in sound quality over Sony's previous models ----- and definitely even BETTER in sound quality, compared to the $300 Bose

HAPPY LISTENING!!!!!...

This review is from: Sony MDR-NC50 Noise Canceling Headphones

I recently purchased the MDR-NC50 headphones (~$149) as an upgrade for Aiwa HP-CN6 noise canceling headphones purchased in the fall of 2003 (~$65). I've used the HP-CN6 on many flights. I also recently purchased Centrios noise canceling headphones for a family member (~$39). I haven't tried Bose's headphones yet.

Of the three headphones, the new Sony headphones do the best job at noise cancellation and are the most comfortable, while the Centrios doesn't appear to knock out as much noise as the Aiwa. In addition, while you can typically hear some white noise when noise cancellation is in effect, the Sony headphone's white noise sound is definitely much quieter than Aiwa and Centrios. The Aiwa's white noise seems to be the loudest. You can appreciate the difference if you listen to quieter sections of music. For example, with the MDR-NC50 while listening to Mozart's Horn Concerto #1, you definitely are not distracted by the white noise as you are with the HP-CN6.

Regarding a previous reviewer's comments about audio volume being significantly less, I would have to agree. I tested the headphones with an iPod and a Roland electronic piano. The output was disappointing compared to both the Aiwa and Centrios. I also compared them to some old standard Pioneer SE-305 headphones. Even when you crank up the volume to 100% on the iPod while using the MDR-NC50, it still seems you lose out on some of the music. Using the Horn Concerto as an example, there are sections where the bass of the cellos appears muted in comparison to the other headphones. There doesn't seem to be as much depth of sound while using the MDR-NC50s. From this perspective, ranking the headphones for subjective audio quality, from best to worst, I would have to say Pioneer, Aiwa, Sony, then the Centrios. I rank the Sony headphones before the Centrios, because sound seemed more muddled with the Centrios headphones. In addition, the Centrios seems to have trouble voicing the highest octave notes from the Roland electronic piano, while all the others, including the MDR-NC50 had no trouble.

Regarding a previous reviewer's comments on "howling", the Aiwa's user instructions also stated the same thing. I haven't heard any howling from either Aiwa's or Sony's headphones. I have tried putting on the heaphones backwards, skewed, etc., and haven't had any problems.

In conclusion, I think for an airplane environment and at a reasonable price point, the Sony headphones are probably a good trade-off between noise cancellation and audio reproduction. For pop and rock music it's OK. However, the depth of sound and volume issues are disappointing, in particular for classical music. The MDR-NC50 is as comfortable as my standard Pioneer set. Price wise, the MDR-NC50 is probably reasonable between $125 to $150....

This review is from: Sony MDR-NC50 Noise Canceling Headphones

About a month ago, I had my Bose QC2 headset (along with my MP3 player and 1GB CF card) stolen from among other personal belongings at a western states airport. Devastated, I dreaded the prospect of shelling out ANOTHER $300 to "Dr. Bose" for a replacement set of his mystical noise-canceling cans.

As luck would have it, however, both the Bose headset and the Sony headset are available as redemption "rewards" under a popular credit card that I typically use when I travel. At that time, I had accumulated enough "points" on my account to get the Sony headset, but I needed another 8,000 or so to get the Bose headset. At the rate I accumulate "points," waiting to get enough points for the Bose set would have taken many months, and I just couldn't wait that long to replace my noise-canceling cans. So ... I decided to take a chance and get the Sony cans instead. Now that I have received the Sony headset and put them through their paces, I don't regret my decision at all. I found the Sony headset to be a perfectly acceptable alternate to the Bose cans, and here's why.

I used the Bose cans for about two years, and they were, in a word, EXCELLENT. Until now, because I was so supremely satisfied with the Bose cans, I never compared them to other noise-canceling headphones, but I absolutely loved their sou...

When i first got these for Christmas, they were amazing! But now, after 7/8 months, the inside cord is messed up and the right side is muffled. I do take very good care of these headphones especially because they are pretty expensive. Only problem, but overall, they are amazing headphones and I would have never put out another 150 for Beats because they are the exact same quality (my friend has the studio beats so I know)....

I really wanted to write that they are just okay, worth the $18 I paid for them. Well, there is nothing overtly wrong with them, like crackling, but the sound quality from my earbuds are better and, in the end, they weren't worth the $18. Without turing on the battery powered noise canceling feature, they are useless in sound and volume....

I have had these headphones for a long time, but they are lost now. I had a pair of these headphones and they sounded very good even when in Noise Cancelling mode. I have had them for like 3 months, then when my girlfriend got a hold of them, she was trying to put them on her head the the parts that hold them together split in 2. The other pair had a problem with the

headphone driver falling off. I tried to glue them back together, but they kept on falling apart on me. The headphones I had were like these advertised, but with the separate noise cancelling control with in the cord. they also don't last on 1

AAA battery. I wish these had a way for to plug them in a USB power port and charge up the battery or use a AAA battery. I had 2 pair of these, but they got lost in a bag somewhere.

The Beats by Dr. Dre are advertised as some of the best headphones on the market. Are they really? Yes, they have amazing sound, deep bass, awesome mids and highs, and are so amazingly comfortable. They are like wearing pillows on your head. Everything about this package is nice. The box is stunning, the cables they give you are of the highest quality (and tangle free), and the case they give is amazing. The Red Sox design is perfect for all the hardcore fans out there like me. The only problem I have with them is they leak. Like mad. You won't be able to wear them in a car with other people because they will get annoyed, trust me I have experienced this. Overall I would say buy these if you want great stylish headphones but pass if you want them for long car rides....

This review is from: Red Sox Beats Studio Headphones

These beats are AMAZING!

I rated 4 stars for a reason rather than 5. Everything is awesome besides the headphones *LEAK* noise. I listen to them on half volume and people think they are loud. When I do listen to them loud, they are amazing! Like being in a tricked out car with the volume up. I feel like I am from the hood with these. :)

**If that doesn't work, then go to youtube and type in AJones413.

You guys wouldn't believe how many comments I have gotten from classmates. They say they are awesome, sweet, gangster, etc. I have literally gotten over 1 hundred comments in a week. It is a little annoying, but I get a smile on my face everytime I do.

Pros:

Bass-I played "A Milli" with extreme bass for my friends, and he said, "it's like having a few subwoofers in a car and playing it on BLAST"

Comfort-Like having two soft foam pads on your ear. Very Comfortable.

Quality of product- It's ok, they do break a few times, but Monster replaces them no hassle. (my brother has sent them back a few times.

Sound quality- AMAZING. You can literally hear every beat.

Style- People comment on them everyday. They look awesome. I swear I am going to get a girl maybe even more from just wearing these.

Value for the price-The price is a little bit too much, but I think they are worth it.

Wow factor-100% of my friends that listened to these have said, "WOW, they're amazing!"

Appearance-Great!

Awesomeness- Really Awesome

Carrying case- Ok, the strap broke, but my mom can fix that and I can send it in.

Ease of use- You just plug it in and turn on the button.

Cons-The sound leak.

If you put these on during a quiet time and you play your music loud, people will be looking at you because they can hear the music or that you just look awesome.

**Hope this review helps you out**

Overall, if you are looking for headphones that will last you years, and you are not afraid to spend the money, then buy these headphones.

This review is from: DBSound Black High Fidelity Noise Cancelling Stereo Headset with Microphone and On/off button for Motorola Atrix 4g - Includes Zippered Case + 3 sizes Ear Buds

I've always preferred to talk on my wired iPhone headset than through the Bluetooth alternatives. Now that I've moved to the Motorola Atrix, I was looking for a high quality headset that allowed me to listen to music and also conduct phone calls on the go. While this headset achieves the bare minimum requirements for my daily use, the audio quality is really terrible. For the record, I plugged my iPhone earbuds into the Atrix and the audio quality improved dramatically. Unfortunately, the microphone was unreliable. Unfortunately, I'm stuck working with these crummy earbuds for a while.

PROS

* Physical build quality is very good.

* Nice long cord - why don't more headphones offer this?

* Decent comfort in the ear.

* Microphone is good - callers can hear me clearly.

CONS

* Audio quality is horrible.

* Faint buzzing in the ear throughout calls.

* High-pitched artifacts come and go during calls.

Just OK sound and mic "piece" comes apart. I jog and listen to music after a short while the "innards" of the mic were out and exposed to sweat, thus making unrequested vlingo calls....

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

I wanted to love this product but ended up "only" liking it. As soon as I opened the box, I tried it on and love the fit. After using the last three Aliph Jawbone models, I was hoping for something more comfortable and Motorola knocked it out of the park with the Oasis' fit. Pairing with my phone and PC was simple, but any modern Bluetooth device should pair easily -- this is 2010 after all. With all of that going, the Oasis was off to an excellent start.

Then the next two weeks of use came and I was disappointed in the unit's sound quality. This doesn't sound nearly as good as the Jawbones I've used. I'm surprised that there are other reviews that claim this is a better headset in terms of sound. This was not my experience at all. Incoming sound is a tinnier than the Jawbone's. The noise cancellation doesn't work nearly as well. My test for this is making a call on the corner of Wilshire/Vermon in Los Angeles -- a street with heavy car and bus traffic. With the Jawbone, my friends had no idea I was calling them in such a busy area. While the Oasis blocked out a good amount of sound, my friends said that they could definitely hear background sound. Overall the sound quality is a little above average, but in my experience not nearly as good as what Aliph offers with its Jawbone products....

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

I've been using the Motorola Oasis headset for about a week, so these are my initial impressions...I'll update this review if anything changes.

As the title indicates, I've found this headset to be comfortable over periods of extended wear. There are three different size earpiece cushions, allowing it to fit different ear canal sizes. The distance between the ear speaker and the loop that goes over the top of the ear is fixed, but should accommodate most ear sizes. If you have unusually large ears, you might want to look at a different style headset. I wear glasses and haven't had a problem with the behind the ear section interfering with the glasses stem...again, your mileage may vary. The microphone and earpiece are free to rotate, allowing the headset to be used on e...
