Until I head about Acoustibuds, I was wondering if I'd EVER get all the sound my iPhone earbuds were capable of providing. I don't know if it's my ears or their buds, but I could tell I wasn't hearing it all - unless I held the buds in place with my fingers.

I saw a story about Acoustibuds, and they sounded like just what I needed. Well, they are.

The fins hold the buds in my ear canal, and also help minimize exterior noise. Since the Acoustibuds enclose the earbud, they also funnel all the sound directly to me. I keep a set on my earbuds and they're there when I need them.

I purchased the 3-size pack, since I haven't had my ears sized lately. It turns out that I am comfortable so far with the smallest set. I plan to keep the others available just in case.

Great price, great performance. can't beat that!...

My ex-husband drives a crude oil tanker and it's extremely loud. He had a very hard time hearing callers with his Jawbone before trying the acoustibuds. He also had a problem with it falling out of his ear when he bent over at times. We tried all the other ear gels on the market and nothing else worked. When he started to wear the Acoustibuds, he actually had to turn down the volume on his earpiece, that's how much they improve the sound level. Also, he'd never had the Jawbone fall out, not once. He wears a size 5, but now likes the 4 better.

I couldn't wear them because my ear canal is very small (I am petite), even most small ear gels made by other manufacturers are too large for me, including those that came with my Bose in-earphones & every Bluetooth I ever tried (and then had to return). Any type of earpiece became very uncomfortable after a short time, even other aftermarket gel buds hurt my ears so badly that I could only stand them for 20 minutes or so at a time.

I could force the size 5 into my ear and it would stay for a while and didn't hurt, but was simply too large, so they'd fall out.

I wrote to the manufacturer asking if there was a smaller size available and they said that they had the 4 coming out and actually sent me a free trial pair, which was very nice. When we went out separate ways, my ex got custody of them, lol, because he liked how they fit him.

At last, there is now the size 4 available for sale and I snapped them right up. I can now wear my Bose earbuds in comfort and have tried them with hubby's Jawbone and could wear it comfortably. He was right about the noise cancelling properties, I have turned down the volume on my Bose earbuds and am looking forward to using them on my flight to Mexico this week, I think that they will muffle the engine noise nicely.

I can't recommend these highly enough. Would like to see them in black here on Amazon, but any color will do as long as I can have the size 4 :D

One caveat that is mentioned in the description: They don't work with every type of headset, so be sure to read the compatibility listing.

I purchased these based on the glowing reviews....I was looking for something to enhance the comfort on my iPod headphones, which irritate my ears after a short while. The noise reduction factor was also important.

When they arrived, I foudn that out of the three sets/sizes of the Acoustibuds, only the smallest remotely fit my ear, and even those were really a bit too big. The two larger sizes were huge. The largest size would probably fit my cat.

They were difficult to get into my ear properly, and I imagine doing so repeatedly would be stressful on the rubber and possibly tear them. Trying to adjust them created a suction which was uncomfortable.

Definitely not worth the trouble, and I returned them....

These headphones have worked pretty well for me at my office. I'm in a big group of cubicles with completely exposed air conditioners overhead and industrial lab equipment not too far away. These really let me turn DOWN the volume and still hear my music. Sound quality is certainly acceptable, but compared to nice headphones (even in the same price range) it is somewhat lackluster. Think lo-fi. The point is that these headphones have way, way better sound quality *in a noisy environment* than the alternatives. If you don't need the isolation, look at the Sennheiser model below or the Sony MDR-7506. Or AKG K240. Or something more expensive. :)

Before deciding on these, I tried a few other worthy contenders:

** Bose Quiet Comfort 2. For the kinds of noise in my office, these did not do as good a job at isolation as the Extreme Isolation did. They are amazing at getting rid of low frequency noise, however. I can see why people like them for air travel. I found these to be LESS comfortable than the Extreme Isolation after use for a few weeks. (It feels like there is a pressure difference when the isolation is turned on.) Sound quality in the Bose headphones was OK but not stellar by any means. I didn't like that the active isolation circuit (which creates an annoying hiss) has to be engaged all the time (or the headphones don't work), and I didn't like the price, which is about 3X higher than the Extreme Isolation 'phones.

** Sennheiser HD-280. The Senn's have noticably better sound (much more definition and clarity, if somewhat lacking in bass), and do have impressive isolation. But it isn't anywhere close to what the Extreme Isolation provides. These would probably work fine in a less noisy office. And they don't look as dorky, either. :)

I have had 2 coworkers try out my headphones and decide to get their own set.

One important point--when you first get the headphones, they are VERY tight. One friend initially called them the "head pinchers". This effect makes for a very uncomfortable experience, but the good news is that they loosen up over time. Now, besides the obvious bulk, I don't notice any discomfort at all. One friend successfully pre-stretched his when he got them to counteract this effect....

I was looking for a pair of headphones to use on my riding mower and these are perfect for that application!

After doing a bit of research I found that these headphones have approximately the same noise reduction capabilities as a good set of hearing protectors (30dB) for industrial use. I believe they are rated at 28dB reduction.

Another important fact is that the impedance is rated at 64 Ohms, for those of you who aren't up on your technical specs. this means that a small MP3 player or CD player will drive these headphones without a problem.

I'm also a NASCAR fan and try to go to at least 1 race a year. This year I used them at a truck race and they preformed as well as a set of specialty racing headphones I own. They are a bit more comfortable as well.

If you get these don't expect thundering bass or incredibly loud music from the drivers. The sound is very flat over the entire 20-20kHz spectrum.

Combined with the sound reduction of 28dB from the muffs and the flat frequency response they make for a very comfortable listening experience over many hours.

I would highly recommend the headphones for anyone who wants to listen to audio in a noisy environment....

I bought the Direct Sound Extreme Isolation phones for my wife to use so she can hear the movie dialog on airplanes and trains.

I had previously tried the Koss QZ active noice cancellation headphones. The Direct Sound headphones have the advantage that being passive they require no batteries and also they do not introduce the white noise hissing sound of the Koss phones. Also, the Direct Sound phones reduce all frequencies, while the active cancellation phones tend to reduce mostly the low-frequency rumbling-type noise. Overall the Direct Sound phones do a much better job of cancelling all frequencies of ambient noise.

My wife loves these headphones and now even uses them while watching movies at home because she says she can hear the dialog much better.

The Direct Sound phones are definitely a bit bigger than the typical noise cancellation phones, but the superior results overcome the inconvience of the larger size.

Because we mostly use the headphones for listening to movies, I can't speak specifically to the musical quality of the sound but several times I've tried them with music they seem fine....

The "active noise cancellation" feature works reasonably well for certain sound frequencies. I recently had the opportunity to use them on an airplane and can report that they make a noticeable difference by practically eliminating the higher-pitched "whine" part of the jet engine noise. (The lower "hum" is still there, but it is less bothersome than the other). They come with airplane adaptor. I also use them for part of the time simply to muffle the plane noise, by turning on the noise cancellation unit but without playing music. I also have found that it reduces road noise went in and not a mobile.

The sound quality is fine overall, though perhaps a bit muddy. Having a separate volume control on the electronics unit (located in the middle of the cord) is a nice feature. The earbuds continue to function even if the noise cancellation battery is dead--or removed (which means it can serve as a backup battery). At least on my MP3 player, when the electronics unit battery got weak the music started sounding like a skipping CD. One last thing. The cord is VERY long (and therefore, prone to bad tangles!). Its one major flaw...at this price, they should have added a tangle-resisting covering....

I bought these based on an ad saying they'd stay in your ears better than others. Not the case, regardless of which bud size I tried. Any light tug and they pop out just like any other buds. Controller is a bit bulky. Since the device works with the controller off, it should be detachable. I fly rarely so I have not tried the airplane noise cancellation features. The sound is good, but these were certainly never worth $80 (list); not sure I'd pay $35 either.

Here's an update from a few weeks later: I tried these on a plane and in other white-noisy locations. I must say the noise cancellation feature does work pretty well. I decided to keep them for that reason - ECB.

Update 2: On further use, I think these buds do stay in the ear just a little better than other buds, but not a big difference.

The same sad ending: Somehow I must have bent or folded the headphone wire too hard or too many times somewhere and the circuit now breaks up in one channel, rendering them mostly useless. Shame, as the noise cancellation does work. With any headphones, the wire is almost always the weakest link. That is why I am always hesitant to spring for any expensive buds; I groan at spending $25 as it is. And the user IS the always one who bent & broke it. So I can't fairly mark this against the manufacturer.

Try 'em out if you want decent white-noise cancellation, can handle the little extra bulk & effort, and don't mind the risk of loss due to wire breaks....

After forsaking these earbuds for athletic use have only used them at work.

However, besides the short leash have discovered that the earbud fit has been less than ideal and only if you hold perfectly still do they stay in my ear.

I don't think my ears are extraordinarily small, so don't understand why the smallest earbud attachment falls out so easily.

Bought these earbuds for two potential purposes, it works great at the office where i use a laptop and can listen in, but would not work for someone with a tower workstation on the floor, (the cable is too short unless you have your chair position at the bottom)

the other purpose would be for the treadmill at the gym, but as I noticed above, the cord would be way too short unless you walked really slow and really close to the outlet at the TM panel.

so

basically, for mobile listening to your laptop or other closely located electronic devices, it is great, has good sound, the three different earbud sizes make it easier to find the right size, (though it is a struggle to get the alternate one installed, but I suppose that is on purpose so it won't fall off easily either)

otherwise if you plan to use this for more sporting purposes or to listen in to a more remote source, i'd look for one with a longer cord...

I was looking for a closed back headphone to block noise and purchased these and the Koss QZ99. The QZ99 is designed as a passive noise canceling headphone and is supposed to be the one to buy if you need to block out random noises. I tried active noise canceling headphones, but soon learned that they are really best for canceling droning noises, like being on an airplane, not for when a bus goes down the street (I live in the city).

Everything review I've read about the Panasonics is true, they are a very good headphone at any price, but a great value at $40. If the Koss's get a 10 for blocking noise, these would get a 7. But the sound quality is so much better, and they're so comfortable that I'll be returning the Koss's.

Sound quality is warm with clear highs and mids, but the bass is too boomy, which can be tiring. But using the "bass reducer" setting in iTunes makes them almost perfect. Comfort wise, they're the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned and let's not forget that they're also one of the best looking headphones out there.

Now If I can just put the guts of my bluetooth headphones into them and make them wireless they'd be the perfect headphone....

I read that some DJ's were using these headphones for in Club use and were happy with their performance. So I thought that I would give them a shot for $40; just for back up and see if they worked out. The styling alone would be a welcomed change and was my incentive. However, the headphones are smaller than I thought (even though they are 40mm drivers), flimsy and leak a considerable amount of outside noise. I would never recommend these for a DJ. Low end is hollow and difficult to discern. Therefore, one would have to turn the volume up considerably to hear the distinctions between the kick and snare drums in a live cue; all the while the headphone signal will have to compete with the outside club noise leaking in...again...more volume. Hence: HEARING DAMAGE! Performance of these validate about a $25 price point. Styling may warrant close to the $40; if you're more into look than sound. I recommend these as an accessory for your personal media player....

These headphones are more or less exactly what I wanted when I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD-280s. See, I let myself get fooled into thinking I'm more of am audiophile than I am, and coming off a pair of Sennheisers I'd really liked, I was ready to buy another pair.

They turned out to be huge, heavy, uncomfortable, and -- I'll admit it -- didn't have as much bass as I wanted, which I suppose is what audiophiles do like. Fair enough, but they just didn't work at all for me.

These, on the other hand, are eye-catching, light, and comfortable for frequent use. I bought these expressly for using at work in an office at a desk, and they're never going to venture outside. But I get enough isolation from the outside noise of people in the lunchroom to know that they're pretty good at covering sound, but they let in enough for me to know when people need to talk to me -- that balance is important for me, anyway.

I'm really happy with these and would definitely recommend them for an office environment/desk listening at the very least....

Had these for a little while now and I am very pleased with the sound and noise canceling feature. I am a frequent traveler who requires the NC feature on all headphones. I actually prefer these to my Beats Studio, I am very happy with the sound quality and I like the fact that when NC is on the volume isn't diminished too much and that the music still plays if the NC is off, meaning that if your battery dies mid-flight you can still listen to tunes. The only complaint that I have is that the cable from the battery/NC piece is too short to the earbuds. The ONLY way you can use these is to clip it to your shirt. It is not long enough to sit anywhere while flying. I wish they would have made this cable long enough to sit in your lap while traveling. Overall I would recommend these to anyone who wants a great set of headphones for traveling without wanting the bulk or looks of the over-the-ear styles out there....

I checked Consumer Reports for its recommendations on noise cancelling earbuds and the AKGK390NC buds were rated number one. Consumer Reports was spot on. Even when my iPod was not playing, the earbuds blocked a lot of the ambient noise that can be annoying on long flights. I must admit, though, it's hard to wear them at work, but I can't hear people that come into my office....

Short Review:

While I think the noise cancellation could be better, I absolutely like the detail and clarity of the AKG. I do have Sennheiser CX400II (original), Beats by Dr. Dre and Shure 210s and must say that these AKG K390nc are my new favorite. Especially because they also function as a headset with Mic for my iPhone and Blackberry as well.

Bass is punchy, lots of crystal clear highs, rich, wide and open sound that really makes you enjoy the music.

I think these in-ears offer great value for money. They cancel out my A/C in the office 2/3rds.

I would purchase them again....

For the price this is a pretty decent headset by logitech. It doesn't feel cheap, it works, has decent sound, records in stereo great...

Definitely a good buy for people on budgets......

The headset works pretty well, but the seller didn't say if it's USB or 1/8th", it's 1/8th". Also, in online games, people say when I talk it sounds like my mic is next to the speakers. I'm not using speakers. I turned down the record input on my sound card and I think it's better but I don't know....
