Creative Labs HS-600 Headset 51MZ0120AA005 Headsets & Earsets

This review is from: Creative HS-600 Headset with Noise Cancelling Microphone

The Creative Headset HS-600 is a nice headset with headphones and a noise-cancelling microphone. Whether you're using it for gaming, chatting, teleconferencing or internet phone applications, this unit is well worth a look.

The set is nicely designed for those that prefer the traditional over-the-head style of headset. The headphones sit firmly on your head, and the microphone head can be turned and adjusted closer to your mouth. It is noise cancelling for crystal clear audio.

This set must be compared to the HS-400 set also made by Creative. While both sets are wired, they offer 2 different configurations that will appeal to different people. For example, instead of the over the head style, the HS-400 offers a behind the head configuration that is less secure but, to some, more comfortable.

Creative Headset HS 400

The Microphone arm is telescoping and the head is easily adjusted. There is also volume control with a microphone mute switch, for those multitaskers out there. :) Unlike the HS-400, the microphone arm cannot be easily moved from one side to the other based on your preference.

The HS-600's microphone seems a little bit better than the HS-400's. That could just be because of the adjustable head.

The ear pads, however, do seem softer on the HS-400. The difference is subtle but the HS-600 can feel less comfortable to use over a long time period. The sound is just about as nice on this headset, and both are priced nicely.

The bottom line is, if you prefer the behind-the head style and the headphones are more important than the microphone, than the HS-400 is for you. Otherwise, look into the HS-600 for a more stable fit and a microphone with a nice adjustable head.

It's hard to find good wireless headsets in this price range, but hopefully that will change. If you don't mind the wired connection, this set is worth a look.

Enoy!

So you have to stick some kind of spacer underneath so that they don't squeeze TIGHTLY against your head regardless of the adjustments you make to it. In fact, the material they chose for the ear pads (which you can't remove) is that of furniture upholstery and made my ears itchy as hell. They also trap heat badly. Just a stupid choice of material!

But on the other hand you'll be hard-pressed to find a speaking headset of such high sound quality for so little money. Downside is the fact that the frequency response is a fixed 20HZ (I prefer 16HZ-22HZ). But these are for talking, not listening to music.

First of all, I bought this to replace my HS-600 headset that my dog got a hold of and ruined. I checked the labeling very carefully and made sure I was ordering the same headset. Turns out that there seems to be TWO HS-600 headsets. So "model number" does not equal "part number" as it turns out. 2 different companies use that same model number, so I ended up accidently receiving a MUCH bigger and better headset than the one I replaced. Don't ask me what the other brand was, because I couldn't recognize the label after my dog, Bella, finished chewing on them.

The sound is solid and the mic has a WHOLE lot less external noise interfering, such as your breath hitting the mic. My voice was very clear (had to turn it down for other TF2 players). I'm using the PPA Int'l USB soundcard, which is a pain to setup and has no instructions, but works very well. So still working on making my voice clearer. But the headset is really, really good. I got it for half of what most people are paying because I chose a 3rd party merchant via Amazon.

The shipping was great and well packaged, so recommend price comparing on Amazon's list of "other" sellers....

The quality of the microphone and audio is outstanding. It seems, however, to be much bigger and more cumbersome than necessary. The earpieces are very large and tight. I can't figure out how to get them to stop pinching my ears....
