Klipsch Image S4i: Take Phone Calls Without Skipping a Beat

Aluminum accents and compact size make the S4i look as good as it sounds

Made for music-loving, multi-tasking iPhone and iPod users, the Image S4i in-ear headset will rock your world and simplify your life. It’s a breakthrough product that lets you enjoy superior sound, control your music library, as well as answer and end calls without skipping a beat.

Breakthrough Design

The Image S4i works seamlessly with the iPhone 3GS, third generation iPod shuffle, second generation iPod touch, fourth generation iPod nano and the iPod classic 120GB. The headset features Apple’s advanced three-button microphone and remote system that easily handles the voice and/or music control of Apple products.  The Image S4i works with the iPod Classic, 4th-generation iPod nanos, 3rd-generation iPod shuffles, 2nd-generation iPod touch, and the iPhone 3G S.

Furthermore, the S4i remote is among the first to be fully compatible with the Apple VoiceOver feature on the third generation iPod shuffle, which allows you to hear the name of the playlist, song or artist with just the press of a button.

The S4i positions its in-line microphone and remote at the yoke to create a more natural feel when answering calls and controlling music. Because the microphone is a highly intelligible 360-degree design, you don’t have to talk down into it.

Amazing Comfort and Fit

The exclusive oval ear tips naturally fit the contours of your ear canals, providing comfortable long-term wear as well as producing a perfect acoustic seal. A good seal minimizes outside noise, also known as noise isolation, and allows you to enjoy your music at lower, safer volumes.

Premium Sound

The Image S4i employs a moving coil micro-speaker with controlled damping for smooth, full-bodied sound that’s similar to a more expensive design. A dual neodymium magnet motor structure, in each of the 8.5 mm drivers, establishes the S4i’s damping characteristics.

The inline mic takes advantage of the new iPhone's increased button

functionality, plus VoiceOver support

Added Frills The Image S4i comes with a two-year warranty and includes four different-sized ear tips, an ear tip cleaning tool, a premium carrying pouch as well as a clothing clip. Will the Image S4i Work with Any Cell Phone? The Image S4i is designed to work seamlessly with the iPhone 3GS. It will work with the iPhone 3G and first generation iPhone, but with limited functionality. The S4i’s volume up and down feature will not work on these older products. Because the S4i features an Apple chip, we cannot guarantee what level of functionality it will have with other cell phone brands.  What Makes the Image S4i So Unique? The Image S4i is one of the first third party headphones to feature Apple’s advanced three-button microphone and remote system; technology that handles the voice and/or music control of the iPhone 3GS, third generation iPod shuffle, second generation iPod touch, fourth generation iPod nano and the iPod classic 120GB. The remote is also among the first to be fully compatible with the VoiceOver feature on the latest iPod shuffle, letting you hear the name of the playlist, song or artist with the press of a button.  Why Is Image S4i's Mic and Remote Located at the Yoke of the Cable? This is a unique trait that puts the mic and remote at chest level, creating a more natural feel when answering calls and controlling music.

What Critics Are Saying About Klipsch Image S4i: "As far as 3G Shuffle headphones go, this is about as nice as you're going to get. The sound will suit most tastes ... it's extremely clear, and bass is smooth and deep, but never overpowering."  --John Herrman, Gizmodo (August, 2009)

I bought these to go with a shuffle to use while working out and I am very happy with them.

Sound quality: The sound quality is excellent for the money ... they have a ton of bass which is perfect for what I am using them for. I own the Image X10s too which are superb but they are 3 times the price and don't have the inline controls. The X10s sound quality is definitely superior, they're more accurate and have much better separation but that's just not necessary when I'm more focused on not passing out while running up the hills here in San Francisco. I find the Klipsch's Image range to be pretty bassy in general so if you are listening to classical music or a lot of instrumental stuff at high bit-rates you will likely be happier with a set of Etymotic ER4Ps (very accurate with amazing separation) but if you're listening to rock/hip-hop/dance etc. the Klipsch Image range are a great choice.

Build quality: Time will tell how well they hold up but they feel sturdier than the X10s and I have had those for 8 months ... I've been pretty hard on them and have had no issues whatsoever.

Comparison to other brands: I have had Shures and several sets of Etymotics in the past and am now a total Klipsch fan. The Klipsch IEMs have comparable sound quality (better for some types of music), are far more comfortable than both Shures and Etys, are better made than the Etys and are better value for money than the Shures.

One word or warning that you will see in many of the reviews: if you have never used IEMs (In-Ear-Monitors aka sound isolating earphones) - they take some getting used to. You need to make sure to get a good seal in you ear for them to work well, if they're lacking bass it's probably because you don't have a good seal. They really do block out pretty much all noise so make sure to look both ways before crossing the road ;-)...

After a somewhat disappointing purchase of the Apple In Ear Headphones with Mic that I wanted to use with my IPhone 3GS, I now faced the dilemma once again what to buy that would work with the phone. I do own several sets of Etymotics and still feel that these are the best sets out there, in sound as well as value. However, even the new type of Ety's for the IPhone 3GS does not have the volume up and down (aka Apple Chip) on the remote, ma...
