This review is from: The Sharper Image Active Noise Cancellation Headphones with Plug Ear Buds for iPod and Music Phones

I had a pair of Klipsch headphones and one of the earbuds got stepped on and broke. I found the Sharper Image headphones at a discount store and figured that given the price I couldn't go wrong. Unfortunately these headphones were a complete waste of money.

1. When the active noise cancellation is off, there is a faint but audible white noise that I found distracting when listening to podcasts. I'm not an audiophile, but I imagine that the noise would drive audiophiles crazy.

2. When the active noise cancellation is on, it successfully reduces the noise CREATED by the headphones. Unfortunately, it reduces none of the environmental noise. I tested the headphones in several noise environments. I work at a hospital MRI facility, so I tested them in the presence of constant background MRI scanner noise. Turning noise cancellation on and off made absolutely no difference in the background noise.

3. I used the headphones with an iphone. Every time the iphone accessed AT&T's network, the headphones produced a series of whines, beeps, and pops. I tried this with email, maps, stocks, etc. As soon as the iphone finished downloading information, the noise stopped. This only happened when noise cancellation was turned on.

4. When I directly compared the sound quality of my old Klipsch (with the one working earbud) with the Sharper Image headphones for the same music, I found that the Sharper Image was greatly attenuated for the higher frequencies. So, it sounded like the treble was turned way down... i.e. it didn't sound very good.

5. The length of the cord is too short. It is not long enough for me to keep my iphone in my pants pocket. I have to keep it in my hand or in my jacket pocket when I listen to music.

I now understand why this product was being sold in a discount store.
