I can't believe these are under $100. The combination of styling, build quality, comfort, and sonic fidelity is unparalleled in this price range. Usually, you can get a good-looking, ok-sounding pair of IEMs or a great-sounding, unattractive pair at this price. I am very impressed that Phiaton could do both. These have a clear, detailed sound that reproduces music faithfully, albeit light on the bass frequencies. If you want a lot of bass, you'll have to turn the volume up to hear the impact. The good news is that the PS 210 respond well to bass boost features on music players, and they can play extremely loud without distortion. As far as comfort, these are in a class of their own. If I hold still, I sometimes can't even feel them in my ears. They stay in place nicely and appear to be very well-made. I don't see any concerns about durability. The cord below the Y-connector is also NOT microphonic, so it won't be making loud scratching noises if it rubs against clothing (normally a ubiquitous problem with IEMs in this price range). Overall, an absolutely gorgeous, great-sounding pair of IEMs. This is my first purchase from Phiaton, but definitely not my last....

This is a "first impressions" review, straight out of the box. I was looking for a decent portable pair of phones, and decided to look for good IEM values. My first choice was the Shure SE110K, and those arrived with one of the phones DOA, and I didn't take another chance on them. I'm glad that happened, as these Phiaton things are just wonderful!

To start, I see the negative reviews complain of the lack of isolation, and that is completely true. If you are looking for something to drown out people in the cubicles next to you, look elsewhere. If, however, you are looking for the best sound at a killer price, this may be the way to go! I am passionate about my sound, but wouldn't label myself an audiophile, as most of the time those end up being folks who care and know a lot about equipment and not much about the music. Musicophile might be better.

Plugged straight into the iPod classic, these give you an "OMG I gotta stop and listen" impression. The sound is good enough to distract you from working, if you loaded the iPod with good lossless files... I can't wait for my new headphone amp to see how much the sound improves.

On Leon Fleisher's "Two Hands" album, the sound of the piano is as organic as you will get with IEMs, immediate and involving. On "Raising Sand", Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' voices are natural and nicely spread in the virtual studio space, and the band sounds great. The bass is plenty. I can see that they would do better with a small amp, like the Bithead (which I ordered for this). Even without an amp, they are great, without any break in.

The ear piece is perfect for my ears. I can cycle through some of the bud size options, but the second to smallest just plopped into the ear canal and feels completely natural so far. One little disagreement with other reviews, the cables do transmit some rubbing noise from the clothes, but it's not too bad. And if you run with them, you're not exactly going to be listening for the details in the midrange chords, you just want some pumping beats...

Overall very happy with the purchase....

the Phiaton PS210 is what's a called a 'half in-ear' design. The earphone itself is designed more like an earbud and the driver sits completely outside the ear canal. What this means is that the PS210 doesn't feel as 'intrusive' as many true in-ear monitors and doesn't give that sealed-off-from-the-outside-world feeling. Isolation suffers as a result - it's fine for a park or quiet street but ...
