Just got a pair of these awhile ago. All's told, it's quite a solid headset. They're not like your typical Skullcandy earbuds and not like the Low-Riders, Skullcrushers, or GIs. This is actually an incredibly good headset for all types of listening.

The company is notorious for having a lot of bass on their products; so much that it drowns out the highs in an audio file. I've own their earbuds in the past, and honestly, the bass on them was too much. I own a pair of UE 700s and Monster Turbine Pro Golds, and although both companies are fine tuned for the same concept, the bass in each of those earbuds is not strong as the Titans or 50/50s. Those headphones will give you the bass when you need them, but not destroy your music overall.

These guys however... are different. The first thing you'll notice is that they're quite comfy on the ears. They're not an active noise canceling headphone, but they produce passive sound isolaion, meaning your music won't bleed out to the extent that others will hear it. The sound on them is fantastic; Skullcandy put a lot of work into these guys to make something worthwhile. The bass is still there, but toned down to the point that everything else seems clean, and not as muddy as the in-ear buds are. You also get the nice Track/Volume Control/and Mic if you have an iPhone, and a very slick carrying case.

I've tried listening to all sorts of music, from Daft Punk, to Yellowcard, to classical, and even 8-Bit. The Aviators do prove to be quite fantastic in sound; for some reason they kind of remind me of the Shure SRH840s, just with a tad more bass.

The only gripe I have about them is the wire. It's a fabric while, and the plugin in a straight plugin. If Skullcandy made the headset a two piece (ie the headphone and wire separate from each other) and made the wire a bit better, it would be an incredibly good buy, but because the wire is attached to the headphones, and it's fabric, and it has a straight plugin, you run the risk of the wire getting damaged.

All in all though, with this headphone, Skullcandy is moving in the right direction. They can be an incredible force if they continue to produce products like this, they just need to maintain it....

The new Skullcandy Aviator headphones look great and sound amazing! I love the classic retro styling and the compact, ultra-portable design. Too often small headphones comprise quality for size but the Aviator defies this trend offering great sound in a compact and stylish package. Maybe its silly but I really like the included carrying case--just fold the Aviator up and it fits neatly into the case. This is definitely great for portability and travel.

But how is the sound? Although I would certainly not count myself in the audiophile demographic I do have a good ear and am picky about audio. I own a few expensive headphones right now including pairs from the Sony Studio Monitor series and M-Audio professional line. After spending several hours listening to music from many genres I can honestly declare I love the sound produced by the Aviator. It was bumpin' bass on my hip-hop tracks, put out some mighty fine vocals on indie rock, even the delicate tones of classical music sounded great. The Aviator also provides excellent left and right channel separation, one of my favorite parts of listening to music.

One of my concerns about any headphone is how comfortable they are during long periods of use. I'm pleased to report that the Aviator is exceptionally comfortable. The padded ear pieces fit comfortably over my ears and because they are so lightweight, they were very comfortable even after hours of listening.

Wrapping it all up, the Aviator is a excellent headphone worthy of your consideration and your hard earned money. If you love the classic retro styling then buy it because you're going to love the sound quality too....

Very comfortable; just wish they would go a little bit louder. Definitely not noise-isolating, but these are the only pair of headphones that I've found I could wear for an extended period of time....
