The sound is pretty good (7/10). I haven't and probably won't do the burn-in recommended in another review since that's too much effort and I don't want to run my computer for like 20000000 hours just to set up my earbuds. The bass is really good and I listen to a lot of eurodance, techno, hip-hop, and pop. I am comparing these to my old Bose IE1s that went out on me after about 2 years of use. Those used to stay in my ear really well and had very good sound. I was having trouble justifying dropping another $100 on little earbuds so I figured I would give these CX280s a try based on Sennheiser's reputation. I wasn't impressed.

I don't claim to be an audiophile although I can tell the difference between default ipod earbud sound vs. these. It really is night and day. The same applies for my old Bose IE1s vs. ipod earbuds. The sound is just more robust when compared to cheapies. That's why I opt for more expensive audio output devices.

Of course, the volume control was my main reason for purchasing this item. However, I don't think people will use it as much as they think they will. For one, the bass reduces dramatically (to me at least) as you decrease the volume via the slider. I am new to having built-in volume control on headphones/earbuds so I have figured out two ways to approach them. One: max volume on my phone (LG env Touch) and use slider to adjust volume. Two: max volume on slider and use phone to change volume. The disadvantage of approach one is that if you move the slider up even a little, it could blow out your ear drums. I am exaggerating but you know what I mean. Obviously, the disadvantage of approach two is that you aren't using the slider on the earbuds, which is a primary reason to buy them in the first place.

OK, those are mainly personal problems, right? The main grievance I have is that they constantly loosen and fall out while I am exercising. I get pissed having to break my exercise rhythm to readjust the earbuds every 3 minutes. However, they do fit snugly in my right ear. Maybe the silicone adheres to my earwax better in that ear lmfao. I have tried 2 of 3 pairs of silicone earbud tips that they include in the box. They are little more than flaps, but to their credit they do reduce outside noise when they are in your ear. Unfortunately, they fall out a lot.

The build quality is good; I don't see the right-angle audio jack going bad anytime soon (unfortunately).

At one point, I thought I had lost these CX280s and was like "YES!!!" because then I had an excuse to buy the Bose IE2s. Alas, I found them stuffed in the pocket of one of my hoodies. Maybe they will grow on me, but I doubt it since it's been 3 weeks. I'll probably end up getting the Bose buds anyways....

First of all, BURN THEM IN. For those of you that don't know, burning in headphones is an absolute must when purchased new. 20 hours of pink noise (download a free signal generator online that will take do this) These were the first headphones I'd purchased since I learned about that, and it makes a HUGE difference. They were incredibly muddy, like there was a high pass filter on them, but they cleaned up great.

Sound:

For the price, these head phones are real remarkable. Great bass response, exaggerated a bit. Those of you that don't like bass-heavy music should problem find another set. Not the clearest sound in the world, even after burning them in, and I would never use them for mixing tracks and testing levels. But for tracking bass (bass's sound real tight and clean), and especially for listening on the go, they work great, esp. for bass heavy music. They cancel out outside sounds well (as most in-ear earphones do.)

Feel:

I have had bad experiences with in-ear earphones in the past, namely ones by Apple and Shure, and I swore off them. But then I got these as a gift from a family friend, and they fit very nicely. I will use them walking and at the gym for sure.

Fit:

Cons:

Not the clearest sound in the world, but they do just fine....

Awesome best describes these earbuds. When I first listened to my itunes through them I immediately started hearing sounds in tracks that I did not hear before. The bass is unbelievable for the size, not overpowering but just enough punch. The rest of the spectrum is crisp and clear. I originally bought these exclusively to work out on the treadmill/elliptical. Great motivator. The sound was almost as if I was at home rocking to my stereo. At home I only use my Dr Dre headphones now if the house is extremely noisy. Not to undertstate the noise canceling ability of the earbuds. For the money you can't go wrong with these babies. I had them for about a year now and I would recommend these to anyone looking for great sound at a reasonable price....
