After buying and promptly returning the Skullcandy G.I. headphones (which were about the same price as these) because they had poor sound quality, I did a little more research and decided to try these. I was not disappointed. The first thing I noticed about them was that they were extremely comfortable. The ear pads are super soft and made of leather, and are of the more oblong type, thus fitting over my ears much better than the round type.
More importantly, the sound quality is great. They don't sound flat to me at all, and they have pretty good bass. Not blow-your-brains-out bass, but good enough for me (and l like bass).
The flat, tangle-free cord is different and takes some getting used to, but it doesn't get tangled very easily.
Overall, I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants a good pair of headphones for $50....

I have a terrible time finding good headphones. Either they are too tight on the head - even after adjustments - or the cord isn't long enough. Cords also tend to short out after just a few months, which can make headphones a pricy constant purchase. I work in broadcasting, but have a tight budget, so I don't have a lot of extra cash to spend.
I'll admit, I probably wouldn't have tried them for $50 (the price listed at this time), but I got to try them through the Vine program. I'm glad I did. The Philips headphones are a fantastic buy - and I LOVE the red color.
I waited a few months before giving them a review. I wanted to see how they would last when put to the test.
They are comfortable, keep most sounds out and work well with everything. I wish the cord was about a foot longer - but that will apply only to folks who use mixing boards for a living. It has plenty of cord to use with the laptop or desktop unit.
So far, the cord - which is thin and flat instead of round - hasn't shorted out, and that makes me VERY happy. I wonder if the flat design will help with it. It is much more flexible than a round cord.
For the price and comfort, these headphones are a terrific bargain.

These headphones are everything ear buds are not: they're comfortable, rich in bass, and keep noise out the old-fashioned way, by encircling the ears with large sound-insulating pads. They produce a big, strong sound from MP3 players that tend to be underpowered.
In a departure from the more rigid headsets of the past, the earpieces swivel on the headband so that they may be packed flat in a briefcase or perhaps alongside a laptop in its case.
The flat, very flexible wiring, resists tangling; and a three-ft. extension cable is provided should you want to use these in your recliner next to your home stereo system.
But there's a problem: the engineers have overshot the mark in battling the scourge of tiny sound. The bass is impressive, and mellow can be good up to a point; but unfortunately, the bass bias is so strong that the overall sound is muddled and unclear. Although I would not go as far as to say that single-driver systems are incapable of producing deep bass without sacrificing mid-and-upper-range clarity, these headphones could certainly use the addition of a tweeter. Curiously, the uppermost frequencies, which produce the characteristic overtones of instruments and voices, are still present.
Usually I have to run my iPod in bass-boost mode, but with this headset I have to switch to bass-reducing EQ, and still there is too much mid-bass mush. Plugging into my home stereo system the situation is even worse, although there I could probably skew the EQ enough to compensate.
