This review is from: V-Moda FAZE Noise-Isolating Headphones

If you are looking for reasonable sound at an reasonable price, I would recommend the Vmoda Faze ear buds. You will get acceptable highs and lows, but do not expect strong bass or transparent sound. Also the sound is a little dry and seems to have some emphasis in the mid to upper range. As for bass, at first I thought it was lacking. However when I selected a larger size of silicone (allowing the ear buds to sit further out and yet still fit well), the bass performance improved and could be typified as "tight". (Perhaps this change of space in the ear canal is a factor in tuning the bass reponse of the drivers.) Finally, overall construction is good. One physical feature I appreciate is that the cord remains straight and resists tangling. Give it a try!...

This review is from: V-Moda FAZE Noise-Isolating Headphones

I recently bought the Senheisser earbuds for $80 and had them about a month when I discovered they had fallen out of my car and were dragged about 10 miles and damaged. So first of all, if you have earbuds, try and avoid dragging them down the highway for 10 miles as this tends to damage them. Needing better earbuds than what Iphone supplied, I had to buy another pair, but obviously I can't be trusted with a $80 set so I opted for the Faze for around $50. I switched out to the largest earpiece because I learned from the Senhiesser that a tight fit means good bass. After a week of use, these sound as good as the senheisser to me so I am happy with the purchase, just sad I spent $80 on the senhiesser in the first place when these would have done just as well....

This review is from: V-Moda FAZE Noise-Isolating Headphones

These are unquestionably the best-built earbuds I've ever seen or owned. They sound better than many 'buds three or more times their price. But what I liked best about these is their durability. If you look at their picture, you can see that they're wrapped in metal. The plastics, too, are high-quality and don't break easily. As a bit of a (nearly unbelievable) anecdote, I'll share my story about them: It all started at Costco (Isn't it easy to buy 50x what you're looking for there?). They were on sale for $20, so I bought a pair. A year later, while they're still going strong, I'm driving home from a meeting. I accidentally let the cord fall out of the car, and shut the door on it - leaving the earbuds free to drag on the ground. 15 minutes at around 60 mph, and they still looked like new - despite bouncing around on asphalt. I'll upload a picture of them to the product page - they seriously are still in one piece. Amazing....

Sony MDRNC33 Noise Canceling Earbuds (Black)

90 Percent ambient noise reduction

Listen with or without noise cancellation

Monitor switch lets you mute audio to listen outside

Vertical style sits comfortably in the ear

13.5mm Driver units for wider frequency response

Sony MDR-NC33 noise canceling headphones enhance your listening experience by providing a little peace and quiet. The compact and comfortable earbud-style headphones fit in the palm of your hand for less hassle while at work or during travel, yet they’re powerful enough to reduce 90 percent of ambient noise. Enjoy studio-quality sound from the 13.5mm driver units, while a convenient monitor switch allows you to minimize your audio and listen to conversation. When noise cancellation isn’t necessary, the passive feature lets you operate the MDR-NC33 headphones as regular stereo headphones without battery

This review is from: Sony MDRNC33 Noise Canceling Earbuds (Black)

I've had these headphones for about 2 weeks now, and I wanted to put up a review for those considering buying them.

You have to understand you will not get $300 Bose quality for $75, but for the price these earphones are excellent.

PROS

- Lightweight and very portable compared to the over-ear models

- Good sound isolation just from the fact that they go IN your ear, not over

- Noise cancellation is good

- Music is *crisp* You can actually hear the bass drum and other nuances that are usually lost.

- "Monitor" button lets you mute music and listen to the outside world without removing headphones (perfect for work interruptions)

CONS

- Cumbersome compared to other in-ear headphones (think iPod). The AAA battery pack is one the wire, and while this is necessary it does get in the way. If you thought iPod headphones got tangled easily, these are worse.

- Introduces hiss when you turn noise cancellation on

NOTE - Noise-cancellation technology does not kill all noise, it's better at eliminating constant noise, like engine noise.

I recently made a 150 mile road trip, and was noticeably more relaxed when I got done. The road noise disappeared and I listened to music. (Safe while driving? Maybe not, but I enjoyed it)

A friend has the over-ear Bose, and the Sonys are NOT that good, but there's a huge price difference. At the sub $100 price point I am happy with these headphones.

The thing I like best about them is being able to "tune out" at work and relax. You don't realize how much ambient distraction there is, and once you cut it out it's very peaceful.

Sony says these remove 90% of noise, to me it feels more like 70%

A solid buy, I recommend them....

This review is from: Sony MDRNC33 Noise Canceling Earbuds (Black)

I can only compare them to the Shure SE110 Sound Isolating Earphone I also have.

Noise on the street

- About equal. If it is raining the advantage goes to Shure since the nc33s struggle with the

high pitch sounds (water on the street by moving cars).

Subway-Metro

- Here they are about equal again. The nc33s do not block the announced station stops but once again

Shure does a better job of the high pitch sounds (breaks, metal friction ect . . .)

At Home

- I found the nc33 does a much better gob with low appliance humming and other such sounds

(refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, neighbours subwoofer, large trucks outside ect . . . )

On a Plain

- Here I give the advantage to the nc33s. This is mainly because the airplane sound is a low

constant sound. In this environment they clearly held the advantage and perhaps the claim of

90% reduction in background sound can be seen as accurate.

I cannot agree with other reviews that cannot tell the difference between when the noise cancelling is on or off. This is true of higher frequencies but not of the lower ones (airplane, appliance, truck engine ect . . . )

...

This review is from: Sony MDRNC33 Noise Canceling Earbuds (Black)

I've had this product for most of a year, I'm on an aircraft about 6 hours every week, and I won't leave home without them. They significantly reduce engine noise, allow me to mute all sound to chat with the crew, and allow me to control the headset volume. They are small enough for travel as they fit in my pocket, and they are sufficiently durable to have continued to provide great service over many months of use every week. The only negative for me is the cord tangles: I can put-up with that. Here's my final recommendation: I like them so much I purchased a back-up set....

This review is from: Plantronics .Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset

Lots of reviews out there, but mine is a bit more objective due to the testing I have done.

Probably, like you, I was in the market for a headset to use with speech recognition, Skype, music playback from iTunes, etc. But I wanted to cut the cord on my Logitech USB headset. So a few months ago I went out and purchased the Logitech ClearChat Wireless headset. Between this latter headset and the Plantronics 995, there really is not much else on the market as far as non-bluetooth wireless headsets go. These headsets use a USB 2.4 GHz transceiver. This is much better than bluetooth, which constantly needs pairing and has sub-par performance when used with speech recognition, VOIP, etc. due to low bandwidth.

Testing and using the Logitech ClearChat Wireless headset, I was pretty impressed. It worked with Dragon Naturally Speaking/MacSpeech Dictate, as well as with Skype.

However, what I did not like about the Logitech ClearChat headset was that the ear muffs were too small (many complain about it) and there was constant static whilst speaking to someone on Skype (Skype to phone calls). Additionally, the more you move around with the ClearChat, the more static there is, and the range was acceptable but not great. To make my testing objective, I was switching, on the Skype call, between the USB headset and the wireless ClearChat one. The static was only present with the ClearChat headset and not with the USB headset.

So, having read all the great reviews about the 995 Plantronics, I went down to the store, exchanged my ClearChat for a pair. I then phoned from Skype to a telephone (same person) and tested the reception again. This time, there was hardly any static at all (user feedback): their comment was that it was "much improved" from the previous wireless headset. I also got better range with the Plantronics as well.

In addition, the speech recognition seems to work a bit better too, and is actually working amazingly. Seems even better than my USB headset.

Furthermore, I tested some iTunes playback and no question the Plantronics has fuller, deeper, richer sound than the Logitech ClearChat headset.

The only thing I like better about the ClearChat headset is that you can quickly switch the headset off when you don't want it to be connected to the receiver.

With the Plantronics, you can quickly switch it on and off too, with auto-pairing (nice), but there is only one button, not a switch, which needs to be held down for 2 seconds to turn the unit off or on. The only issue is, unless the unit is off your head, you won't be able to see the solid blue light turn to red then off. So if you want to shut it off and leave it on your head, it is not possible to get confirmation from the headset that it is off. However, you will see the blue light flash on the receiver, from solid blue, and that is confirmation you have turned off your headset. But it also indicates the headset is out of range, so the only way to really know for sure that your headset is turned off is to remove them from your head and look to see if the light is off on the side.

Thus, the ClearChat's simple on/off switch is superior in this regard, where you can turn the unit off without the need to remove it from your head for confirmation. At any rate, this is sort of minor because most times you can be confident that a flashing blue light on the receiver indicates you have successfully turned off the headset, so you won't be needing to remove it.

And I like to power down the unit frequently to save on battery life...

As for battery life, I think the Plantronics is better than the ClearChat as well, ...

Product Details

Shipping Weight: 2.9 ounces (View shipping rates and policies)

Item model number: 43535

Average Customer Review:

Bring all the benefits of Bose® QuietComfort® 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones to your music-enabled mobile phone. An enhanced inline microphone lets you switch seamlessly between music and calls with the push of a button, while providing clearer communications. This mobile communications kit connects directly to an Apple® iPhone® and other mobile phones with standard 1/8" (3.5 mm) jacks, and includes adapters for many other popular phones

This review is from: QC®3 Mobile Communications Kit

These Mobile Communications Kit cords break way too easily. I have owned 3 in the past year. They break at the connection for the phone as well as where they plug into the headphones. It works great before it breaks but come on Bose, for $40 can't you make a decent cord? Love the headphones, BTW....

This review is from: QC®3 Mobile Communications Kit

Apple's claim this kit works with the iPhone 3GS is only partially true. Stereo audio works (but you don't need this kit for that!) however, the microphone simply does NOT work at all. After much confusion, I finally got Bose tech support to admit this. Do NOT purchase for use with the 3GS - you will be wasting your money......

This review is from: QC®3 Mobile Communications Kit

Just adding my 2 cents to the other reviews. My cord broke as well which is unacceptable for such expensive headphones and a $40 cord....
