Comply NR-1 High-Performance Noise Reduction Earphones

Passive Noise Reduction - NRR 18dB

Provides Supreme Comfort

Provides Secure, Stay In-Ear Fit

Blocks Outside Noise

Comply NR-1 earphones bring innovative foam design and proven noise reduction technology to the consumer market. The NR-1 makes any loud environment seem peaceful, offering an impressive Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 18dB. Featuring Comply Foam Tips which provide super soft comfort and a stay-in-ear fit for today’s active lifestyles. Compact and portable, the NR-1 makes a great accessory for those on the go. The included Comply Foam Tips are made from unique breathable memory foam that is activated by body heat and becomes ultra soft, reducing irritation and fatigue. Once inside the ear, this foam will expand to create a seal, funneling pure sound into the ear canal, enhancing the listening experience. The comfortable seal allows music to be enjoyed without raising the volume level to compensate for external noise. The angled 3.5 mm plug works with most portable music sources (iPod, Zune, etc), CD/DVD entertainment systems, laptop computers and gaming devices (Sony PSP, Nintendo DS, etc). Each NR-1 earphone comes with 1-pair standard-size and 1-pair slim-size Comply Foam Tips, plus a travel case.

I ride a motorcycle and have been searching for a long time for a way to listen to music while riding as well as to protect my ears from the high pitched road and wind noise. I wear a full-face helmet, and have tried in-helmet speakers, headphones, and amplifiers. However, none of them allowed me to listen to music without a very high volume setting, (which is the exact opposite of what I want) and did not reduce wind or road noise. Replacing one ear-damaging noise with another is not the answer!

I first purchased the NR-10 headphones and used them for about 7 months, before I dropped them unknowingly onto the pavement one day and were run over in the parking lot at work. I really enjoyed them, but I didn't like the inline volume control since it would inadvertently change while riding. So I tried the NR-1. I know that they list different noise reduction values for the NR-10 and the NR-1, but I cannot tell a difference. Also, they use the same replacement tips, so I don't see how one could reduce noise better than the other. So to me, it seems like you are paying $20 more for the NR-10 for only an inline volume control.

The sound quality is great. The bass is surprisingly full for such small headphones. I can hear more subtleties and range than I can with any other headphones, and I don't like using normal earbuds anymore even when I am just sitting at home or work.

The noise reduction is great. Wind noise and road noise at high speeds are almost gone, and yet I can still hear sirens, horns, etc. I can turn the volume down quite low and still hear the music and maintain situational awareness. I can also use them when mowing the lawn and it really cuts down the engine noise.

My only complaint is that you have to change the tips more often than I expected. They last about 2-3 months, and then they loose their firmness and do not stay in your ear.

NOTE: If you ride a motorcycle, it is illegal in some states to wear earphones/earplugs in both ears (California, for instance). However, most states (and all of the western ones) allow use in at least one ear....

Pros

When they say High Performance, they bloody mean it. The best noise-reduction earphones I've ever used. This is the third time I'm buying them- the first two times were under the Radio-shack brandname and now as this. They're hella comfortable once you get used to the canals which go deeper than most headphones.

Cons

The only downside is that the foam-tips get nasty after a while (3-4 months?) and the replacements foam-tips are kinda pricey. However once you get hooked onto the sound isolation and quality, believe me you'll not want to change headphones for a while...
