Panasonic RP-HC30 Noise-Canceling Earbud Headphones

This review is from: Panasonic RP-HC30 Noise-Canceling Earbud Headphones

If you're looking for something that will cancel out all background noise, this is not the product, but if you are looking for a nice pair of earbuds that can reduce persistent background noise generated by airplanes, air conditioning, and electrical appliances, these are for you. I recently used them on a 4 hour plane flight and even after a few hours they are very comfortable. The rubber buds mold perfectly to your ear canal, so you feel no pain after having them in there for a while, nor do they slip out. The main thing you have to keep in mind is that they can't cancel out noises caused by high-frequency, regularly changing sources, like human voices and music over loud speakers at the gym. But for a pair of earbuds these do a pretty nice job of canceling some background noise at a very reasonable price. I only wish someone would make an earbud product with noise cancelation as good as the Bose over-ear headphones....

This review is from: Panasonic RP-HC30 Noise-Canceling Earbud Headphones

I've been a happy user of Panasonic headphones for many years and so thought I would get these to replace a much larger and somewhat cumbersome noise-reducing set, made by Kensington, which did not have good high end response, that I use in my constant travels. My philosophy is to not buy really high end headphones for travel because I've managed to damage one or two sets, and some are just too large.

Basically, the Panasonics are a great disappointment. Though I changed earbuds to fit my ears I simply could not get enough volume from my two MP3 players to listen comfortably in the back of the plane where I usually sit, and it was impossible for me to hear a film on my Archos 604 -- I was more or less rescued by the tiny headset for my iPod. In the middle of my trip I was able to get a Sony MDR-NC6 headset that produced far more volume, with pretty good (not brilliant) noise reduction, and allowed me to enjoy my music and films on the way home.

So, if you do not have great ears, travel on planes a lot and maybe have devices that don't turn out thunderous volume, stay away from this product....

This review is from: Panasonic RP-HC30 Noise-Canceling Earbud Headphones

These headphones work great for blocking out the noise on an airplane. They do work better when sitting in front of the engines however. I no longer have to turn the volume on my Ipod all the way up to drown out the noise. The sound is great too. Great product, can't beat the price either!...

a bit disappointed. It was like dried out of the original one by 30%. Mummified you might call. But it works, still sealing around your ears. It is not puffy as the original one. How to say it...it's like fire wood in my backyard during the winter time. You got the picture.:{...

This review is from: Replacment Ear Pads for Bose® Quietcomfort® 2 - QC® 2 - Quietcomfort® 15 -QC® 15 Headphones

The good news is that these replacement pads fit. But it is difficult to get the pads to snap into the ear phones. Eventually I got enough of them in to hold the pads in place. The set includes replacements for the piece of flat fabric that covers the internal components. Unfortunately the peel-off paper for the stickum didn't peel. Instead it tore a chunk of the fabric out. The stuff is still usable but could be a little better designed.Follow up comment:In response to my three star review above, the seller sent me some replacement fabric and two sets of ear phone pads to try out. One of the sets included a tool to assist in seating the replacement pads. I'm still not sure about the product, but the customer service is definitely five star....

Jawbone Noise Shield Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Retail Packaged]

Advanced, military-grade noise-canceling system continuously adapts adapts to your environment

Award-winning modern industrial design by Yves Behar

Charges via proprietary USB cable

These days, it seems that wireless Bluetooth headsets are a dime a dozen, but Aliph's Jawbone stands apart from the pack due to its unique look and some seriously amazing noise canceling technology. Originally developed for DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) to create a communication headset that would pick up voice in hostile environments, the Jawbone offers some of the best clarity from a Bluetooth headset we've experienced. This version comes in black, but it's also available in red and gray.

Sophisticated modern industrial style meets the next step in audio technology with the Jawbone Bluetooth headset.

It can be worn on either ear, and you can customize your fit by choosing from one of the included earloops and earbuds. The first thing you notice about this headset is its rather chunky size and cheese grater-like texturing on the exterior. Designed by Yves Behar, an award-winning industrial designer who also contributed to the design of the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child, aka the $100 Laptop), the Jawbone certainly has that iconic modern look that will be copied for years to come. It's also a bit large on the face (due to the embedded technology and speech sensor), which reminded us of Lando Calrissian's assistant, Lobot. But then there's no easy way to disguise a Bluetooth headset, and it's probably an advantage as passersby won't think you're just muttering crazily to yourself. The Jawbone can be worn on either ear, and it comes with four earloops of varying sizes to fit your lobe. Made of solid metal with a rubber cover, they're fairly comfortable around the ear. The trick, however, is getting it on over the ear, and this is the Jawbone's biggest disappointment. Because it's so stiff, you literally have to use both hands to try to slip it on over your ear. And since we don't wear our headset constantly, we missed a few calls while performing this dance. Also, the metal frame does bend (as we found after carrying it in our pocket), which can be viewed as an annoyance or as a feature--enabling you to form-fit the frame to your ear. It also comes with five ear pads of varying shapes and sizes, and we tried one of the teardrop shaped pads to secure the Jawbone inside our ear sans metal frame--it was comfortable and worked for awhile, but isn't a solution if you're moving around a lot. As with Steve Jobs, Behar is not a fan of protruding buttons. Thus, the Jawbone's two controls are hidden within the headset, requiring you to press either the front or back of the unit to answer calls, adjust volume, or turn on/off the noise cancellation function. While we've read some reviews that complained about these hidden controls, we had no problem in accessing them and appreciated their tactile response. The Jawbone also comes with a custom-fit recharging cable that can either plug into a PC's USB port or into the included wall jack. We enjoyed the flexibility of the USB charging, but wished the cable could have been a more standard USB mini-jack (for those times when you forget to bring the cable along). But the true test of the Jawbone is how its "noise shield" performed. First, a little about this technology. The Jawbone has a small piece of rubbery plastic that protrudes from the bulbous microphone and sits flush against your face, and this sensor tells the Jawbone whether or not you're speaking and can remove background noise from your ongoing speech signal. It can also dynamically adjust the volume of the incoming audio from your call. We tried the Jawbone in a number of different situations, and for the most part it worked flawlessly. Sitting at our desk with the stereo volume cranked up while playing The Chemical Brothers, our call partner was none the wiser. She didn't hear any of the music coming through, and our voice came through strong on her end. While standing on a street corner, the undulations of traffic noise never made it through to our caller, while we noticed an uptick in volume with an increase in traffic noise. However, the Jawbone wasn't perfect, as it doesn't do a great job in windy situations. Still, for the good majority of situations you'll find yourself in--from busy airports to talk-heavy coffeehouses to traffic-laden city streets--the Jawbone should perform very well, masking the surroundings to improve fidelity for you call partner as well adapting your ear volume to the surrounding environment. We just wish the ear frame was a bit more flexible. Pros:

Amazing background noise masking capabilities--even when faced with loud, thumping music Outstanding adaptive volume as the environment around you changes Options for customizing the fit Cons:

Metal earloop frames are hard to quickly put on Non-standard USB connection is a bummer if you forget the cable at home

This review is from: Jawbone Noise Shield Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Retail Packaged]

I have had this headset for about 3 months now. The noise reduction is remarkable. I can be in a airport and no one even knows I am out of my office.

Wind is a problem with this headset as with any other headset. The noise reduction does not reduce wind noise. If it's a windy day you are out of luck but I don't know of any headset that works that way.

Sound - The sound is a little tinny but you get used to it pretty quickly.

Comfort - I have owned at least a dozen Bluetooth headsets and this is by far the most comfortable. There are different clips and ear pieces that come with the headset. I have worn it for over 8 hours straight and don't even know it's there.

Charging - Propriety USB charger that plugs into the back of the phone. They also supply a plug for an outlet so you can charge it without your computer. I bought 2 chargers one for home and one for my laptop bag.

Battery - Very good battery life. I cannot remember exact times but I use it often every day and have not run out of charge yet.

Storage - This is the one thing that is a pain. It does not come in a case and putting it in your pocket is a real pain. I know this is trivial but I wish there was a case for it when I am not wearing it.

Overall I really like this headset and can honestly say this is the best one I have owned.

...

This review is from: Jawbone Noise Shield Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Retail Packaged]

All the reviews and marketing I've heard for Jawbone, including the Demo on their website, tout how great the sound quality is. What they don't tell you is that it's only great for the person to whom the Jawbone user is speaking. But the sound is no different to the Jawbone user than any other Bluetooth headset.

The charger attachment is cumbersome, and although I've only owned my Jawbone for 4 months, is already coming loose.

Also, the Earloop is terrible. It'...

The sound quality is decent but the main problem I have is these things keep falling apart.

If you look at the picture the black and silver pieces never stay attached. It's so annoying having them constantly open up. I had to super glue them myself.

Why the F couldn't the manufactures just glue it right in the first place?...

I got these for 8 dollars at a local Marshalls. Worst 8 bucks I've ever spent. They're comfortable in-ear but the sound quality is terrible & very, very hollow. I would definitely suggest getting a different pair....

I guess I was just hoping for something better. They fit and feel good enough in my ears, and do seem to function properly, but they make the music sound like a cheap, pocket radio. And I'm not exaggerating. Don't be gullible (like I was) and believe the good reviews for a second, hoping you'd get a quality set of earbuds (with a mic) for $20....

This review is from: SNY Noise-Canceling Earphones with Microphone and Play/Stop Controller for Apple iPhone and iPhone 3G, Black

As soon as I took these things out of the box one of the rubber-like protectors on the end of the actual speaker fell off. The placement of the microphone makes the earbuds awkward and they fall out of my ears at the slightest provocation. To top it all off the quality of the sound is horrendous.

You get what you pay for. Don't pay for these....

This review is from: SNY Noise-Canceling Earphones with Microphone and Play/Stop Controller for Apple iPhone and iPhone 3G, Black

It isn't really noise-canceling at all... Noise canceling is when you have electronic circuitry that generates noise that is opposite of the ambient noise outside... thereby canceling the noise.

This does none of that, it is poorly designed and is a total waste of money. The microphone came out of the base within the first few uses. Don't skimp on earphones, get a decent pair... this will end up costing you more in the long run....

For those of you with Large heads (You where LRG or XL hats), move along.

Probably okay for phone use but These head phones are not comfortable for extended 1-2hr gaming. Much too tight....

This review is from: 80930-01 Wireless PC Stereo He

That's right, I agree with most of the other reviewers - this is a great item. I use it to skype and to listen to music as I'm wandering around the house. Sound quality is just fine, signal I have never had an issue with. Battery lasts long ~4 hours constant use, but you always want more!

If you're a symphony conductor or if you're one of those people that likes the ultimate quality of a record compared to the average mp3 then these probably aren't for you as the quality isn't perfect. But for 95% of people out there, if you're listening to music, watching TV, using skype etc. then you just can't go wrong with these. And what a price eh! Worth every penny in my opinion....

This review is from: 80930-01 Wireless PC Stereo He

This headset is great for recordings. I do a lot of Mp3's for my job and this headset does the job! And great for skype and internet calling....

This review is from: Sennheiser HD448 Closed Circumaural Hi-Fi Headphone

I bought these headphones after returning the Bose Triports Bose® around-ear headphones, for personal and portable listening, which have good sound but are flimsy. Even out of the box, without time for break-in, they are stunning. The sound is precise, clear, and natural. Listening to Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, I hear each instrument beautifully and in surprising detail.

You can buy these with great confidence. An audiophile vendor not associated with Amazon gives these headphones 5/5, and that company has ears trained on equipment costing thousands of dollars. Of course, if you are prepared to buy Sennheiser HD 600 Sennheiser HD600 Over-Ear Open Dynamic Hi-Fi Professional Stereo Headphones (Black) or HD 650 Sennheiser HD650 Audiophile Open Dynamic Stereo Headphone, you will hear something else again, a magical liquidity - but only if you couple them with a dedicated headphone amplifier. If you use headphones to listen to music, rather than music to listen to headphones, you will be very happy with the 448 for portables and home listening.

PS: It's a year since I posted this review, and I have just made a surprising discovery (surprising to me, at any rate). I knew these were good headphones without an amplifier. What I did not realize is that with a headphone amplifier, they are in another league. I have a small headphone amplifier, and I was getting only fair results with my high impedance headphones (which are outstanding on my other, larger amplifier). So just as an experiment, when frankly I was ready to buy a better amplifier, I asked myself what would happen if I took out the Sennheiser HD 530 (300 ohm impedance) and tried the HD 448. They're stunning. I thought it wouldn't be necessary, because the HD 448 has just a 32 ohm impedance. And it isn't necessary, but it certainly makes a huge difference. Put the HD 448 together with -- say -- a Headroom Airhead or Bithead and you have an excellent little rig....

This review is from: Sennheiser HD448 Closed Circumaural Hi-Fi Headphone

I bought these headphones to replace a pair of old Pioneer headphones that I inherited from my family. I wanted something better than earbuds to listen to when I was creating music. I also live in an apartment, and since the walls aren't that thick, with cheap headphones, I can sometimes hear outside noise (like the TV from the front room). I chose a pair of closed headphones to hopefully mitigate some of this noise.

Pros:

*Amazing sound quality! When I first started listening to my music in these headphones, I started hearing instruments and riffs that I had never noticed before. I don't know how much of that is the placebo effect, but it's amazing.

*When you put them on and you don't have any audio coming in, you can hear what is going on around you, and they don't cancel a lot of noise, but as soon as you start playing music through them, all the outside noise goes away. I had several of my friends try them on and I talked to them at a normal volume, and every single one of them insisted that I wasn't really talking, just moving my lips. They are that good.

*Very comfortable. They fit nicely on my head, and even after wearing them for hours, they aren't uncomfortable in the slightest.

*They come with an extension cord and adapter for a larger plug style. I thought the short cord along with the longer extension was a nice touch, and adding the adapter was really nice also.

Cons:

*I can't think of any downsides, I'm absolutely thrilled with my purchase.

Summary:

A wonderful pair of closed headphones made by one of the premier manufacturers of headphones. You absolutely can't go wrong with these....

This review is from: Able Planet NC600 Clear Harmony Noise Canceling Headphones with SRS

In a word Awesome. I had been searching for really good Headphones for business travel and came across these. When I took them out of the case I noticed how well built they are and not cheap. They are very comfortable to wear and lightweight. The noise cancellation is top notch (I can't hear anything outside of these headphones). Now the sound, Incredible. Once you flip that SRS switch be prepared for Audio Heaven. The Bass reproduction is amazing and the clarity is very, very nice. Definitely a 5 out of 5. I can see why they were $160 at one time. I have had BOSE Quiet Comfort and these blow those out of the water (especially for the price). If you are looking to get a Excellent pair of Noise Canceling Headphone don't hesitate to pick these up....

This review is from: Able Planet NC600 Clear Harmony Noise Canceling Headphones with SRS

So I read close to 30 different reviews for these headphones before finally deciding to purchase them over others in the same price range, and I got exactly what customers said I would get.

There is definitely a bizarre background white noise...sort of buzzing effect with these, but I seemed to have found a solution...a rather inconvenient solution, but nevertheless, a solution:

If i touch my iPod, the buzzing immediately stops. If I take my hand away, it starts again. The same goes for my computer. If I touch both the top and bottom of my laptop simultaneously, the buzzing stops. If i just touch the top, i.e. my wrists resting on the computer as I type. Pressure seems to make a difference as well. The harder I press, the better the buzzing gets. What's so bizarre about this is that only contact with skin seems to do the trick. I've tried putting anything and everything on my iPod and computer to see if i could remedy the issue without the inconvenience of having to keep direct contact with my iPod and laptop constantly, but nothing but skin works! I don't know if there's some strange chemical or biological reason for this, but I've tried everything from putting wall tacky on my ipod to piling books on top of it. I eventually put the thing on the floor and kept my foot on top of it or let it rest on top of my thigh while I'm working at my computer. Clothing fabric is even an issue with this...it literally NEEDS to be direct skin contact. So strange.

Other than this, you're gonna get exactly what you paid for...maybe a little more. The sound quality is damn fantastic. The bass is shockingly great. The noise canceling isn't stellar, but it definitely makes a huge difference. I can't even imagine what the really high-end BOSE headphones must be like!

I'd say, go ahead and buy these if you're using them for everyday purposes. I use them to work since I have the most absurdly inconsiderate and disrespectful roommates imaginable, an infinite about of work to do, and absolutely debilitating ADHD when it comes to concentration (diagnosed AD/HD inattentive/impulsive type). The headphones make a difference, but don't expect them to silence the world around you. For example, I can no longer hear the endless bouncing clicks of ping-pong balls or the trebel/mid sound of the obnoxiously loud music from the floor below me. I can, however, still very clearly hear slightly-muffled shouting, banging, slamming, etc, and the bass from the music downstairs....

This review is from: Able Planet NC600 Clear Harmony Noise Canceling Headphones with SRS

These head phones can not be beat for the performance they give. Quality is excellent, as is sound quality. They do an awesome job of eliminating droning, background noise, and other annoying low level noise. Just like other headsets they have a slight buzzing when the noise cancellation is on, with the exception being Bose headsets. However, at any level of volume the buzzing disappears. I'm not sure if it is just me or not, but after an hour or so they caused my ears discomfort, though I am slowly getting used to it. After 3 months mine still function perfectly....
