Noise Cancelling Ensures Immersive ListeningBackground noise can interfere with a music listening experience. Thankfully, the Denon AH-NC800 over-ear headphones have been specially engineered to actively eliminate nearly 99 percent of ambient noise. Two integrated microphones are used to measure noise levels from both inside and outside the ear cup housing. Using these measurements, a cancelling signal is generated, effectively muting any interfering noise. You'll be able to listen to your music in complete isolation.Proprietary Sound Technologies Provide Superb PlaybackWith their smooth highs and extended lows, the AH-NC800 headphones play back your music with startling detail, definition and dynamics. The speakers are engineered using Denon's Acoustic Optimizer system, which equalizes air pressure on both sides of the 42-millimeter speaker diaphragm to deliver a balanced, natural sound. The drivers are housed in non-resonant earcups crafted of a Hybrid Metal material, which helps absorb unwanted vibrations allowing you to hear extreme detail and definition. The headphones also feature Denon's Compressed Audio Restorer, a proprietary circuit designed to infuse compressed music tracks with detail and dynamics while extending frequency response. Precise Engineering for an Optimal Listening ExperienceThe AH-NC800 headphones have been specially engineered to create an optimal listening environment for you. The earpads match a wide range of head sizes, and leave virtually no gap between the head and the ergonomically designed band. This helps seal off your ear from the outside world, further blocking ambient noises. The audio amplifier circuit has also been optimized to suppress unwanted electrical noise, ensuring maximum clarity.

The only credible review on noise canceling it to take it to flight, I brought my QC15 & Denon NC800. Once the cabin pressure, altitude and engine noise put together affect your body & hearing is a completely difference feeling than standing at BestBuy store or your living room. Bose QC15 still "a little bit better" in noise cancellation, a little bit but not that much. Music wise the QC15 is not nearly as good as the Denon NC800. Mid flight QC15 sounded so dull and disappointing, coz Bose's especialty is on Public Address System, even their headphones sounded that way, thats why they were never an audiophile marque, where a league Denon belongs. Yes NC800 noise canceling mode is just a notch lower than QC15, but that is an acceptable trade-off coz Denon sounded well at 40,000 feet, my iPod Nano Touch volume is only set to 1/3 with EQ off, very nice. I would be interested to test the Sennheiser MM500 & Denon NC800 next time I fly to HongKong. Here the final verdict done in mid flight from Newark to HongKong:

Bose QC15 - Best for noise canceling "ONLY"

Denon NC800 - Best for both noise canceling and music

I will pick the Denon hands down, noise canceling on denon is slightly less agressive than Bose but acceptable trade-off due to sound quality that never present on Bose....

After travelling to the US with a pair of Senheisser PXC 250 II and being very pleased with their performance, I was somewhat disinterested in listening to other noise cancelling headphones.

However in NYC,I auditioned a pair of these at J&R and I was knocked out by them - so I travelled home with two pairs of headphones! On a 7 hour flight, the Denons were an absolute delight - very comfortable, absolutely NO background noise from the plane and a wonderful noise reproduction from my MP3 player and the in-flight movie soundtrack too.

There are not many purchases that have had me smiling so radiantly! A superb product that is well engineered and looks built to last....

I keep it short:

Tried Ultrasone, Sennheiser and Bose. I settled on the Denon. Best value for money and sound quality. Very detailed sound, absolutely great noise cancellation (even though the Bose QC15 are a tad better). But the Denons beat the Boses hands down for sound accuracy and quality.

The "sound restorer" function does indeed do a bit of magic on crappy ripped mp3s but does not do much to higher quality mp3s or any lossless formats.

Anyhow, these headphones rock. You won't be disappointed. Make sure you let them burn in, it gets only better ;-)...
