I had a good listen comparing these to the original Beats. In the end, I must agree with the many others who've tried these, they are MUCH better than the beats. Bass is still predominant, but highs and especially mids are much better represented. I think it's due to the lack of noise canceling, but these are much more lively than the original Beats

At 400$, you're really not paying for sound as much as durability. These are ROCK SOLID, the entire thing is really mostly metal, except the parts with the cushions. I must stress that there are much better offerings from Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Ultrasone (google them if you've never heard of them) IN TERMS OF SOUND. But if sound is not as important for you as durability, such that you're not an audiophile but just an average listener. I promise you these will last. Let me say again, ROCK SOLID.

My biggest warning for everyone who is reading this is the comfort factor. Unlike what you've been hearing from others from youtube (there are so many unboxing videos on these already), these are not necessarily comfortable. Let me explain why. Unlike the original Beats and other around ear headphones, these are ON EAR headphones. Usually, ON EAR headphones are built so they can swivel to how much you ears "stick out" if you know what I mean. Like how much you ears wedge out. A well known example of a comfortable ON EAR headphones would be Bose QC3, and they do swivel. NOTE THAT I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT HOW THE BEATS PRO ARE ABLE TO SPIN, WHICH DON'T HELP COMFORT IN ANY WAY. Since these headphones don't swivel, they hurt, and HURT ALOT, for me at least. If you still don't understand me, just imagine the fact that these headphones will flatten an elf's ears towards its head when worn. do you think the elf would be in pain?

I can't listen to these for more than one song, because they hurt so much for me. This is why I didn't give a more detail description of the sound. I would really suggest people interested and potential buyers of these headphones to TRY THEM ON AT BEST BUY. Trust me, it does no harm to take a look at the Best Buy nearest to you. But it's better than getting them and regretting, which almost happened to me.

EDIT JULY 28, 2011: I was around best buy again and a test model was available, so I tried them on again. It appears that the clamping problems has been resolved by Monster. I did not feel the pressure around my ears anymore. Nonetheless, durability is top notch which is perfect for full sized portability but for sound and cheaper options for BASS I would suggest other headphones. For instance, look up the Sony XB-700 which I also reviewed.Sony MDR-XB700 50mm XB Diaphragm Driver Extra Bass Headphones...

OK, I'm not a music professional. I love the sound these headphones give. I don't know why other reviewers felt they weren't comfortable, I feel mine are very comfortable and wear them multiple hours. I'm 6'4" 300lbs. I'm big and they are very comfortable. On to the bad. The included travel case SUCKS!! At a $360-$400 price range this bag is unacceptable. I could make a better one myself. Also the price, is it worth $400. I think maybe. The durability of the aluminum is great.

UPDATE: August 2011. The hinge for the right earpiece broke under regular use. The headphones still work, but now they are no longer comfortable on the ears as they don't sit properly on the sides of my head. For $400, this is a ripoff. Do not buy!!!...

This set sounds great, I would rate the sound 5 stars eeven if it cost double the price. I'm going to end my comments on the sound this way, incredible bass, clarity and very good detail. However, no matter how good they sound, the poor comfort makes them a lousy choice. I imagine some may find them comfortable, but not many. If you can't stand to wear your headphones, it really doesn't matter how good they sound. The beats studio, while not sounding as good, are at least comfortable, and far better than the Monster haters would have you believe. Make sure to buy these from Amazon or best buy, so you have 30 days to return them. As much as the sound makes me want to like them, the sore ears make it impossible. Hopefully, Monster will make a revised model like they did with the Studio model. As it stands, few will be able to wear them for long.UPDATE and Final thoughts followOk, I just couldn't give these up due to my love for the sound signature of these. After over 9 months of ownership, I can wear them two hours, now that's not close to how long I can wear some of my other cans like the beyer 990. I know many folks hate Monster products. But in my opinion, these are the best sounding (CLOSED) cans on the market.

Yes, I said it, and it's just my opinion. But I don't care about a brand name, only what I hear. I have had the chance to compare these with the Denon D7000, and other than comfort I prefer the Beats Pro for sound, Denon fans, please don't take offense, it's just my personal opinion. The bass is tighter with these, and the sound is better to my ears. Just my two cents for what it's worth. I stand by my words, worth double the price soundwise. I listen with an open mind, and admit Denon cans are not my cup of tea. None the less, the D7000 by Denon is far better than the 2000 or 5000. And worth the extra money if the Denon sound is for you. These along with my Beyers, get almost all my over ear headphone time, save for the Bose QC15 for certain situations. I still love iem's but gaming and movies are glorious with the beyers. The DT 990 are also underpriced IMO. (600 ohm version)A few notes I'd like to add. For one the comfort is still improving. Also, A good pmp player will make these scream. No amp needed but it does tighten the low end a bit. The warm sounding players like sony don't match quite as well with them. (YMMV) Don't let anyone else tell you these don't sound good, make that decision for yourself.Very good build and they don't leak out much sound. Lastly, having tried on the new ones at best buy, they seem nearly as comfortable as mine out of the box, I literally watched them put them in place. (White version) They had an oled pair of the black that have been abused, but they still looked great, while the studio version clearly does nott stand up to this type of abuse. The extra 100 dolllars is well worth it in every way (IMO)

The best I can compare these with would be the AT M50's, only tighter, clea...
