The QZ900, latest addition to the Koss Quiet Zone line - adds a new level of performance and comfort. Designed to monitor outside noise received through specially mounted microphones in each ear cup. Koss QZ900 circuit introduces a sound wave which is 180° out of phase with the incoming signal. The result is "zero earth" at the point of the eardrum and dramatic reduction of most low frequency distractions, resulting in deep rich lows and sparkling highs, noise canceling ability so good you'll need less volume for greater efficiency and less distortion from overdriving the tiny amplifier in your portable electronics. QZ900 operates with or without active noise canceling circuit engaged. Features a removable cord and an on line volume control and 1 standard AAA battery which provides approximately 50 hours of active noise cancellation.

I bought the Koss QZ900 headphones, after a lot of research, as a lower cost alternative to the Bose QC-2 headphones. I've had a chance to compare them to both the QC-2 and QC-3. No question, the Bose QC-2 (over the ear) headphones have the edge. However, I did not care for the QC-3 (on the ear) headphones. On a recent trip across the Atlantic, the airline I was on distributed the Bose QC-3 headphones for use during the flight. I tried the Bose QC-3s, put them up, and used my Koss QZ900 headphones instead.

The Koss headphones sound nearly as good, and have nearly as good noise cancellation as the Bose QC-2. They are light, compact, use a AA battery, and have a volume control on the removable cord. The one negative about the product is that the carrying case is larger (thicker) than it has to be.

If money is no object, go with the Bose QC-2s. If you can't justify the $270 for heaphones, the Koss QZ900s are a good choice....

I did a lot of research on various noise canceling headphones and landed on the QZ900 for the following reasons: Over ear design, in-line volume control, price, previous experience with Koss headphones.

I agree with one of the other reviewers this product is capable of producing a lot of bass which I believe is a good thing. The bass is of good sound quality and clarity. One can easily adjust the EQ settings on their device to their preferred bass level. On the contrary if a headphone is not capable of producing bass, it doesn't matter how you set the EQ, you will never get good bass response. All my previous Koss products have had rich bass and I was hoping this product would follow suite and it did - I can't say the same for the Bose products I own (hit or miss).

The overall sound quality is exceptional, both in active and passive modes!

The product does a decent job of sound canceling. It is by no means sound proof. On the plane it lowers the sound level of the engines and background noises and allows one to go off into their own space without all the distractions.

The quality of build is sufficient and representative of the purchase price. I don't expect the headphones will last forever, but they should provide a couple good years of service for the frequent traveler....

I only use noise-canceling headphones when flying, so my experience is based entirely on that. I had a pair of on-ear noise-canceling headphones for several years, the ear pieces of which finally disintegrated. I liked them, but I found it difficult to locate new earpieces that fit and decided to splurge on the Bose 15s. They were very good, but I just couldn't reconcile myself to the price, and took advantage of the free trial/free return offer. I tried these Koss OZ900s instead, and am glad I made the switch.

I believe the Koss headphonese are about equal in sound quality compared to the Bose, and I think these are slightly more comfortable. I found that the Bose would make my head a bit sweaty after hours of use, and I haven't had that problem with the Koss. I think the noise canceling may be slightly more robust on the Bose, but it's more than adequate on the Koss. And I particularly like the in-line volume control on the Koss; I could never find the right volume level on the Bose using the plane's audio control---the lowest setting was too low, and the next highest setting was too high. The Koss headphones solve that problem easily with their own continous volume control.

In all, recommended!...
