Found these NC7 headphones at RadioShack in the USA. The active noise reduction (ANR) cuts down on persistent noise and boosts the bass range in music. If not listening to music/video and staying switched-on they minimize ambient noise as well. These fold up into the size of a baseball for travel and include an adapter plug to use on commercial flights. They have been reliable and the battery lasts for 10 hours of use on a single charge....

I've been shopping around for a pair of noise canceling headphones. Since today is my birthday, wifey went out and bought the Sony MDR NC7 noise canceling headphones. First of all, they are on the ear phones which will not give true noise canceling effects (wifey didn't know this). I decided to give these a try and compare them to the headphones I've been using, Sentry over the ear HO-1 with 3D sound. The 3D can be turned off if desired. In a word, there is no comparison between the two. The Sony MDR NC7 is garbage. They do not have adequate power to deliver a solid and enjoyable listening experience. On a volume scale of 1 to 25, with 25 being the loudest, my Sentry headphones are set on 6 or 7 with the volume control all the way open. This in effect is enough to blast you into the next room... your ears will want you to turn it down. I set the exact same settings for the Sony and immediately noticed how quiet and weak the volume was. To get anywhere near the same effect as the Sentry, I had to turn the volume control all the way up to 25, volume control was wide open. So in a word, don't waste your time or money on the Sony MDR NC7. I will return them and hopefully find something on par with the Sentry HO-1. If not, then I'll stick to Sentry....

Purchased these at the airport and they worked fabulously to begin with. I've had them 6 months and the noise cancellation function has quit working, even with a new battery. The music quality is still good, but that is not what I purchased them for. At present I need them so that I can work on my laptop at home while my family is watching T.V. and they do not cancel out the T.V. even when it is turned down low. My older ones which disappeared (wish I could remember what brand they were; it's been about 3 years ago) would cancel the T.V. sounds and I only paid $100 for them....
