Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

While I don't use earphones often, when I do, I'm pretty picky. After all, these are MY ears, and I really don't want any problems with them. So I gave this particular set of earphones a solid "going-over" to see if I would be comfortable with them.

Test #1 - The comfort test. With several sets of soft plastic ear buds designed to fit every ear, these passed wonderfully. They felt nice in my ears, and didn't bother me (hurt) like some do after only a few minutes.

Test #2 - These are supposed to block a significant amount of outside sound. Without plugging them into music, I tried them while riding in the car, while listening to a radio, and while simply sitting at home with background. I estimate that they removed a significant percent (60-70%) of the background noise I was experiencing.

Test #3 - Quality of sound. Wow. And double Wow. My split tracks were genuinely split, my stereo came in clearly, and I could clearly hear the difference between digital downloads (clear) and older CDs (not so clear). I played a full range of music (kids to symphonic orchestra) and was truly amazed at the quality of the sound.

Test #4 - Sturdiness. How many times have you bought a new pair of headphones only to have the wires break easily or pull out of the earphones? While I didn't YANK on the wires, I did give each earpiece a sturdy tug, and they held up well. The wires in the earphones are soft (bendable without breaking) and thicker than the "cheap" variety and appear to be the kind that will hold up over time.

I have slipped this pair in with my Ipod for long trips, tuning out the background noise and turning on some of my "relaxation" music ... in fact, they are even comfortable enough to wear to bed.

OH, a new idea - with the combination of the noise blocking effect and the music, I wonder if I can sleep through my husband's snoring? Now THAT would be a real test ... above and beyond the call of duty of any earphone. :-)...

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

I spend much of my day at home with earphones in. Generally I have 3 goals with my headphones:

1. They must be comfortable for extended use (8+ hours)

2. They must be able to isolate me from outside noise even without the music being really loud (I generally use them while studying and reading either at home or at Starbucks, listening to music to keep me from being distracted)

3. They should have good sound (I generally listen to instrumental where there are no vocals to distract from bad sound).

Ultimate Ears 100 gets 5 stars on #1 & #2, but 3 stars on the sound quality. I think that the sound is about equivalent to what I hear with Apple earbuds. And when the music makes heavy use of bass, the sound is poor. It does much better at mid and high ranges.

But it is a very inexpensive headset and the noise-isolation and comfort are among the best I've had. So I strongly recommend these if you are looking for inexpensive earbuds primarily for comfo...

This review is from: BlueAnt V1 Bluetooth Headset (Silver)

UPDATE - after 18 months the earpiece on my BlueAnt V1 broke... BUT they sent me a free replacement!

Nothing lasts forever, right? So when the earpiece on my V1 headset began to separate from the body, I was disappointed, but figured I got my money's worth. So I went ahead and bought a replacement from Amazon cuz I still love this headset -- it's the best I've used, bar none. But before my replacement even arrived, I remembered BlueAnt offers a 2 year warranty, so I called them up on a whim and explained the problem and they gave me an RA number. I mailed my broken V1 in and about 1 week later, they sent me a free replacement in full retail packaging!!! By now, the replacement I ordered form Amazon arrived but I decided to keep both and save one as a spare. Moral of the story - BlueAnt has awesome customer service and is the V1 is still the best in my book!

And now back to my original review...

This headset is amazing!! I bought this primarily for the noise and echo canceling feature and I have to say it works like a charm. I checked out other noise & echo canceling headsets like the Motorola H710 but it looks exactly like my H700 which in my opinion has big design flaws. Motorola should've done more to upgrade the headset's look and function. As it is, the 710 is just a boring retread. But what really sold me on the BlueAnt was the dual microphones.

I've done a lot of recording work and know how difficult it can be to eliminate ambient noise, so the concept of dual mics was a revolutionary idea that made total sense to me. Liken it to having two eyes - you can see everything with just one, but when you look with both eyes, there's more depth, clarity and accuracy with what you're seeing. Well, the same is true with hearing with two ears or a headset with two microphones. The two mics are the secret to the superior noise & echo canceling of this headset. But don't take my word for it, listen for yourself online.

I went to the manufacturer's website and watched a video showing a guy using the BlueAnt headset in action in a noisy bar. First they just showed the guy talking normally in the bar and you could hear all the ambient noise around him, and that alone was enough to give me a headache (a big reason why I hate places like that.) Then the guy picks up his cell phone and turns on his BlueAnt and they let you hear actual audio from the headset with just normal noise canceling on, and it cut the ambient noise in the bar drastically! Just on the normal setting! Then the guy turns on max noise canceling and the ambient noise all but disappears!! No kidding!! His voice did sound a bit tinnier as a result of all the filtering, but that's to be expected. You'd never use max canceling in normal situations, just in circumstances where you need to take a call in a noisy location and being heard is paramount. In any case, the video was quite impressive and a brilliant marketing move. So I'm wondering if it's just doctored in some way, but the dual mic concept has me sold and the video has me intrigued enough to try it out. I believe the guy in the video is using a Z9i and supposedly the V1 is even better at noise canceling which is why I chose it. The two headsets are identical other than color and that the V1 also has voice control.

At first, I was wondering if I needed voice control or not. I also wasn't clear if I could still use my phone's built in voice control with the V1, but the answer turns out to be YES, you can. You just give the voice command, phone commands, to access your phone's own voice commands. It's very simple and I like having the option to use either the headset or my phone's voice control. At first I thought it would be an either or, using one or the other. As it turns out, I find myself using both for different situations. And I absolutely love-Love-LOVE that you can ask the headset how much battery life is left! With no accurate visual indicators on most headsets, like the disappearing battery bars ...

Plantronics Flex Grip Headset- Mx256-X1 Headset With Boom Includes Noise Canceling Microphone/ Univ. 2.5 Connector And Answer/Enb Button

This review is from: Plantronics UPMX256X1 Flex Grip Headset

I have a Plantronics Explorer 510 Blue Tooth headset, and I really like it. (See my review). But I don't always remember to keep it charged, so I run out of battery before I run out of "talkery!"

I was chatting online with a Plantronics customer support specialist who suggested that rather than buying a car charger, why not buy a wired set as a backup? GREAT idea!

The Plantronics MX256-X1* is a SUPERB piece - EXCELLENT sound quality on both ends of the call, with ONE TOUCH Answer/End call if your phone is so-equipped (e.g. Sprint's Voice Command) It WEIGHS LESS than its wireless counterparts, and is VERY comfortable to wear for extended periods: This unit features a SOFT silicone "clip" that attaches to the backside of your ear, not over the top. This means that it won't interfere with your glasses like the vast majority of Blue Tooth devices!

* NOTE: It is the X1 designation on ALL Plantronics wired sets that denotes compatibility with one-touch-equipped/voice command-type phones. IF your phone has this capability, make sure you look for a Plantronics unit with the x1 designation....

This review is from: Plantronics UPMX256X1 Flex Grip Headset

Excellent sound quality. Noise cancellation really works. The button on the headset string lets you automatically place a call and end the call. Very nice. Works much better and more reliably than ANY BlueTooth set I've tried - and I've tried almost all of them....

This review is from: Plantronics UPMX256X1 Flex Grip Headset

I speak approx. 5000 minutes a month on the cell phone. For one reason or another the bluetooths have not been conistent enough for me. They always seem to falter at critical times and I have tried at least a dozen of them.

After finally going with the wired ones and I have tried literally 25 to 30 of these wired headsets and the average cost of them was about $20 - $22. I use them mostly when I am driving, but they always seem wanting in one way or another. There never seems to be enough volume on them. Finally this one makes it. It works great and the volume level is more than adequate - Horray!

If you are looking for a reliable excellent headset and not want to burn your ear with just using the phone earpiece, this is the one to get. I am actually ordering another one today!...

This review is from: Sony 4 GB Slim Noise-Canceling Video MP3 Player (Black)

Though I bought this player from Sony style I would like to write down my reviews here simply because I wanted to share my experiences.

I had been following the Sony sites to get the exact date of launch of this product and not surprisingly this product was launched well in advance and on the same day 4th generation IPOD was launched.

Let me start with the features of NWZ-S736FBNC:

1. Too easy to handle: I was able to get a hand on almost all the available features without taking help from operating guide available in a tiny CD which comes with WM player 11.0.

2. Player was already partially charged and I was able to listen pre-loaded songs (1 song of each genre - has got Ace young "Addicted" song too).

3. Now let us come to sound features:

It has got equalizer with presets and 2 custom options which is most useful feature in terms of sound frequency adjustments.

Earphone: This is unique and can be used only with Sony noise canceling MP3 players. The noise feature though not too effective but it zeroed out air conditioner and tread mill sound (as they claim 75% noise cancellation, I found it true).

Amazing sound (no one can beat this product of Sony in terms of sound). You can enjoy deep bass at the same time no compromises with highs. Sony MP3 player may not have as stylish looks as IPOD nano has but sound feature is too dominating to ignore style feature of other MP3 players.

4. Video: Crystal clear video. You may disappoint with the formats it supports (just MP4 and WMV2). But this is more of a music player than a video one. Sony has got another model which has bigger screen, sold at same price but with no noise canceling option.

Cons: Earphones can't be used with other players. Sound quality is not so good if tried with other earphones.

Overall this is an outstanding MP3 player from Sony....

This review is from: Sony 4 GB Slim Noise-Canceling Video MP3 Player (Black)

Terrific. But with a trick for spoken word content.

Excellent performance on the things that the best players do well:

- superb sound quality

- FM player

- slim and light

- 2" clear display for 240 x 320 video/pictures

- perfectly resumes spoken word content,[**Note 1] like the Sansa Clip and Fuze, the Zune, the iPod.

- perfectly resumes video.

- plays protected WMA. This plus resume means it supports all audiobook types except Audible.

- shuffle, equalizer, surround, enhancers of various types.

- on-player delete of podcasts and video (but not music).

- nice menus and options, various appreciated thoughtful touches.

[**Note 1/Spoken Word trick]: To get the perfect resume function, you must store the audio files in a subfolder directly under "Podcasts", e.g "\Podcasts\<someFolderName". Otherwise they won't play. The subfolder must be under "Podcasts," even for audiobooks, in order to get the resume function. For OverDrive Media audiobooks, you need to go into "Advanced Options..." during the Transfer process and select "Browse" and make sure the audiobook parts go in the folder "\Podcasts\<someFolderName\". (OK, it's not really a trick, as it's documented on page 31 of the user guide. But definitely not obvious--see the 2-star review of the 8GB S738 complaining incorrectly that the player doesn't resume properly.)

Novel things that most other players don't do:

+ Noise cancellation. Easy o...

Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

Noise reduction for travel, work and home

Powered by: AAA battery

Total weight with cable: 6.9 oz (196 g)

This review is from: Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

First of all, let me say that I resisted buying the Bose QuiteComfort 2 headphones for a long, long time. I travel a fair amount for business, and had been looking for a pair of noise cancelling headphones for those long plane rides, but I didn't like the $300 price tag. I bought and returned a number of the cheaper Sony alternatives after finding them dramatically inferior. A business colleague had the Bose headphones, and I borrowed them for a test drive. There really isn't a comparison. Turn on the power and the ambient noise really does melt away, whether you have music playing or not. I now use them to review and edit audio files on my laptop when I'm flying, watching DVDs, as well as mowing the lawn while listening to my iPod. I never noticed the pressure that an earlier reviewer mentioned, but after reading their reviews it is there. However, it's never caused me any discomfort. Really, I have nothing bad to say about these headphones....

This review is from: Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

Ironically, while most people buy a version 2 before they buy a version 3, I bought the Bose QuietComfort 2 *after* I had purchased the Bose QuietComfort 3 newer headphone set.

Here's the issue. The QuietComfort 3 are the brand new version, they cost more, and they are "smaller and lighter". They offer pretty much the exact same noise cancelling quality, but they fit on top of your ear vs being a larger, bulky around the ear style like the QuietComfort 2.

However, when I tested out the QuietComfort 3 for a month, I found them to be quiet painful. Not in a "pressure on the ear" sense - they were quite comfortable to wear. Rather, when you turned them on, the pressure they exerted on the actual eardrum in order to "cancel noise" hurt. It was a physical sensation, when you turned them on and felt that WHOMP of wave energy pressing against your eardrum. Anybody who thinks the QuietComfort 2 is uncomfortable in that sense hasn't tried the QuietComfort 3 yet.

Yes, I realize that in order to cancel out ambient sound waves, there has to be an opposite sound wave to cancel them out. It's simple physics. However, because the QuietComfort 2 is an around-the-ear design, it doesn't have to blast that cancelling wave right at your eardrum. The larger "air area" being encapsulated by the ear cups gives you more area to work with, and you can block out the sounds without bombarding the ear canal with signals. I did numerous tests with the QuietComfort 2, with my set of iPod playlists that had left-only and right-only sounds, and even during the quiet parts, it was quite comfortable.

Also, as much as people might say that the QuietComfort 2 has "large" ear pods, I really didn't find them bad at all. I was able to sleep with them, wear them without feeling silly at all. The case, in fact, is about the exact same size as the QuietComfort 3 case.

In all, I am EXTREMELY happy that I traded in my QuietComfort 3 headphones for the larger but "kinder" QuietComfort 2 set. The noise cancelling ability is pretty much exactly the same, and the long term comfort is FAR superior. Plus, since the QuietComfort 2 takes batteries vs rechargeable plug-in items, it means if I drain the battery, I simply plunk in new ones. With the QC3 I'd have to wait for a recharge, assuming of course I had the appropriate charger (and outlet access) for whatever airport or country I'm in....

This review is from: Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

After reading some of the other reviews, I feel I must weigh in with my opinion of these headphones. I bought them online from Bose after some research of similar products. I'm not made of money, but $300 didn't seem bad, since I do really enjoy listening to music, and I own some incredible Klipsch speakers. I believe the most important component in an audio system is the final link, the actual sound transducers, whether they are the speakers, or headphones, so I tend to not scrimp on either.

That being said, I have listened to a wide variety of headphones, and I own a pair of Sony V600's. The sound quality of the Bose QC2's are on par with the best I have heard. I personally do not get the sensation of "pressure" mentioned by others, however the noise-cancelling feature does produce a sensation that, frankly, you don't get anywhere else. It's not bothersome to me at all, and I don't even notice it after the first minute of listening. As a frame of reference, I work in a noisy manufacturing environment, and I wear foam earplugs in my ears over 8 hours a day, so the QC2's are entirely unobtrusive to me.

As a testament to their noise-cancelling ability, I wear them when I mow my lawn with my cheap (noisy) riding mower, and in that capacity they are nothing short of phenomenal. I plug them into my Muvo MP3 player and turn the volume on the player up to about half to three-quarters, and I don't even notice the mower engine anymore. No other headphones I've tried were able to let me enjoy listening to music while I mowed.

The AAA battery seems to last forever. The construction of the QC2's can best be described as very high quality, but light. The 'phones weigh very little, but I wouldn't want to drop them off of a table for fear of them breaking. I tend to be very careful with my electronic "toys," but I still find myself treating these even more carefully than usual.

The bottom line is I am completely satisfied with my QC2's. They don't cancel all noise out completely, but they do reduce it very noticeably, cancelling lower frequencies (street rumble, footfalls on stairs and floors) better than higher frequencies (female voice, television sound.) When I bought them, Bose was running an offer of a free CD player with the purchase of the 'phones, and that helped push me over the fence. Even without the free player, I can recommend buying these without reserve....

This review is from: Logitech Laptop Headset H555 Portable Audio For Notebooks (981-000261)

I wear this headset 12 hours a day on the average for work; it's comfortable and convenient, and the sound quality is fantastic -- good enough for making high-quality recordings.

However, it will break. The reliability of this device is abysmal. I'm on my 5th one. However, it's worth mentioning that I keep getting the same one despite it's terrible track record.

When I first went looking for a headset, I bought about 6 different models from different manufacturers, and tested each for comfort, sound quality, recording quality, and noise reduction; this headset was the clear winner by a fairly decent margin.

So my solution, and my recommended solution, is to buy the headset from some place that offers a reasonable extended warranty program. Every time it breaks, take it back and get a new one, presumably at no additional charge. Plus, you get a new headset every few months....

I work from my home so I use a headset 5 days a week. I purchased 2 of these headset and own 4 of them(Logitech has sent replacements). Let me first say I like Logitech products A LOT. I just don't like this one.

I gave it 2 stars because when it works it's great.

Pros:

Very Comfortable

Sound is good

Mic is good when it works

Logitech support is good(I should not have to know that).

Cons:

Both of the the ones I have pu...
