Though I bought this player from Sony style I would like to write down my reviews here simply because I wanted to share my experiences.

I had been following the Sony sites to get the exact date of launch of this product and not surprisingly this product was launched well in advance and on the same day 4th generation IPOD was launched.

Let me start with the features of NWZ-S736FBNC:

1. Too easy to handle: I was able to get a hand on almost all the available features without taking help from operating guide available in a tiny CD which comes with WM player 11.0.

2. Player was already partially charged and I was able to listen pre-loaded songs (1 song of each genre - has got Ace young "Addicted" song too).

3. Now let us come to sound features:

It has got equalizer with presets and 2 custom options which is most useful feature in terms of sound frequency adjustments.

Earphone: This is unique and can be used only with Sony noise canceling MP3 players. The noise feature though not too effective but it zeroed out air conditioner and tread mill sound (as they claim 75% noise cancellation, I found it true).

Amazing sound (no one can beat this product of Sony in terms of sound). You can enjoy deep bass at the same time no compromises with highs. Sony MP3 player may not have as stylish looks as IPOD nano has but sound feature is too dominating to ignore style feature of other MP3 players.

4. Video: Crystal clear video. You may disappoint with the formats it supports (just MP4 and WMV2). But this is more of a music player than a video one. Sony has got another model which has bigger screen, sold at same price but with no noise canceling option.

Cons: Earphones can't be used with other players. Sound quality is not so good if tried with other earphones.

Overall this is an outstanding MP3 player from Sony....

Terrific. But with a trick for spoken word content.

Excellent performance on the things that the best players do well:

- superb sound quality

- FM player

- slim and light

- 2" clear display for 240 x 320 video/pictures

- perfectly resumes spoken word content,[**Note 1] like the Sansa Clip and Fuze, the Zune, the iPod.

- perfectly resumes video.

- plays protected WMA. This plus resume means it supports all audiobook types except Audible.

- shuffle, equalizer, surround, enhancers of various types.

- on-player delete of podcasts and video (but not music).

- nice menus and options, various appreciated thoughtful touches.

[**Note 1/Spoken Word trick]: To get the perfect resume function, you must store the audio files in a subfolder directly under "Podcasts", e.g "\Podcasts\<someFolderName". Otherwise they won't play. The subfolder must be under "Podcasts," even for audiobooks, in order to get the resume function. For OverDrive Media audiobooks, you need to go into "Advanced Options..." during the Transfer process and select "Browse" and make sure the audiobook parts go in the folder "\Podcasts\<someFolderName\". (OK, it's not really a trick, as it's documented on page 31 of the user guide. But definitely not obvious--see the 2-star review of the 8GB S738 complaining incorrectly that the player doesn't resume properly.)

Novel things that most other players don't do:

+ Noise cancellation. Easy o...
