Bought these and used twice, second time the plastic headpiece snapped. Very thin plastic. Sony will not replace. Buy something else if you want to use more than twice!...

I travel a lot and these headphones are perfect for turning an economy trip into something a bit more comfortable. They are easy to pack in your backpack or purse, since they come in a small carrying case and are lightweight. As for comfort, you can wear them for hours without getting sore ears. And the sound quality is good. Probably not great (like high end noise cancellations earphones), but good enough to get me through trans-pacific and trans-atlantic flights in comfort....

I've had these headphones for several years and they've stood up to being thrown in computer cases and suitcases, even stuffed in a carry bag with no problems. I have two other sets of headphones but I tend to use these the most. The adjustable headset is very comfortable to wear, far more comfortable than my Sennheisers. The Sennheiser has very clear mid and high tones but wimpy on base. The Sony NC40 doesn't quite have such clear high tones but such a nice, mellow base sound that I rarely can pick up on the Sennheisers. I switch headphones depending on the type of music I'm listening to, but I definitely favor the Sony NC40, partially for the comfort. The Sony NC40 does sound much nicer with the NC turned on, but still sounds good without it. Battery lasts a good length of time, I'd guess about 40 or 50 hours. As for noise cancelling, I think there might be better NC headphones but I'm not about to pay $200+ for them. There is a newer version of these headphones on the market now (NC60) which probably have been improved over this model. I deducted 1/2 star each for not-so-crisp high tones and so-so noise canceling. All in all, I enjoy them enough to try the NC60s next time....
